Ideas for 1st Birthday Party Games
Here you'll find several 1st birthday party games that you can play at your special event.
The games on this page are designed for entertaining the birthday child, as well as other babies in attendance. (Parents can play with their babies following your lead.)
Since you're likely to have guests without kids attending the party, then I recommend you take a look at game ideas for adults. Before we start, review 1st birthday songs and poems. Have fun!
*Bubbles: Purchase a container filled with bubble blowing solution. Little kids love watching bubbles float and change colors. Watch the smiles on their faces as they chase and pop them.
*Artist-in-Residence: Why not use pudding as a finger paint you can eat? Put a bit of pudding on the waxed paper. Demonstrate how the young ones can draw on the paper while licking the fingers along the way. After they're done, you can pin their designs on the fridge with a magnet for everyone to see!
*Balloon Games: Fill a small balloon with water 1/4 of the way. You and other adults can supervise the kids as they play with the balloons outside (or in a safe area indoors). Children can roll the balloons around, throw them inside the bucket, and so on.
For another activity, blow a balloon up halfway and let it go before tying it. Youngsters will be fascinated watching the balloon soar. Or, you can simply pull the neck of the balloon. It will make funny noises, which will delight the children.
The balloon, or pieces of it, can be swallowed - so make sure to never leave a baby unattended with a balloon, whether inflated or deflated.
*Hide 'N Squeak: If your child has a toy that squeaks, then hide it under a blanket and make noises with it. Have the kids find the toy.
*Blanket Fun: For another great 1st birthday party game, pull children on a blanket along the floor one at a time. (You can also use a large bath towel.) Be sure that your starts and stops are gentle.
*Creative Stacking: If you have empty containers at home, why not create a tower? It's a great quiet activity to involve young kids. They can sort, stack, and at the end knock the tower over. For "building material", use boxes of various shapes and sizes, milk and egg cartons, plastic tubs, cereal boxes, and other containers.

- Toy Swap: Ask each parent to bring one toy from home. Let the children exchange toys with one another. That way they can have the fun of a "new" toy to play with for the duration of the party.
