Backyardigans Birthday Party Ideas

Any toddler would really enjoy a Backyardigans birthday party. This Nickelodeon TV Show has become very popular in recent years, so your young guests won't have any trouble following the theme.

The party ideas below will ensure that they have a ton of fun!

  • Backyardigans Party Invitations

There are several ways to have fun with your invitations.

First, you can copy a group photo of Backyardigan characters on the front of the invitation cards. Write "Come Join Us for Some Fun in the Backyard!" Then include the rest of the Backyardigans birthday party details on the inside of the cards.

As a variation, paste a picture of your child on the invites. Then write party information, and glue character cutouts all around the card.

Lastly, you can download a printable coloring page from Nick Jr. site. Fold it in half to make a card. Write party details on the blank side. The kids can color the page when they receive the invitations.

    Backyardigans Party Decorations

A party setting in the backyard is ideal for this type of party. Mount a theme poster on the fence to greet your guests. To make it more fun, cut out blue penguin "footprints" and put them on the walkway leading to the party area. Place a visible sign nearby that reads "Follow Pablo's Steps!"

Decorate the yard by tying balloons to trees and spreading colorful paper streamers all around. You can divide the backyard into several episode-relating settings.

Fill a kiddy pool with sand and place some beach decorations with sign that reads "Tiki Beach" from the Backyardigans episode "Surf's Up." You can also have pirate decorations to mimic the setting of "Pirate Camp" episode. Or, you can recreate the episode scene that the birthday child is familiar with.

For a really cool effect, create character stands. Just glue pictures of the Backyardigans onto a cardboard, and place them on wooden sticks and stand them up.

If the weather doesn't allow for an outdoor party, then decorate the living room. Tape theme posters on the wall, and hang balloons everywhere.

If you feel like it, create a maze for the kids out of cardboard boxes. Set up tunnels by joining the boxes together. Finding their way around the maze will be a lot of fun for the kids!

Cover table with polka dot cloth. Place a centerpiece in the middle of the table, and use theme paper plates and utensils. Hang a Happy Birthday banner nearby.

    Guest Arrival and Introductory Activities

Greet the guests and welcome them to "The Backyardigans Party".

*Coloring Pages: Spread out theme coloring pages with crayons on the floor before the event. Invite the children to color them as they're waiting for everyone else to arrive.

*Sand Castles and Treasure: If you're having your party outdoors, fill the kiddie pool with several bags of sand. Hide treasure (various plastic toys) in the sand. Have the kids play and search for treasure. (Ask the parents to supervise this activity very closely if you have a younger group - so they don't swallow any items.)

    Favors

For Backyardigans party favors, give out pirate patches or bandannas; bubble solutions, theme stickers, cake toppers, plastic toys, Nickelodeon activity books, and so on.

    Backyardigans Birthday Party Games

*Pirate Treasure Hunt: Before the party, hide different toys around the backyard.

When everyone has arrived, get them to find as many items as they can. Place arrows on the ground to lead the kids to the treasure. Be sure to offer help to younger kids, so everyone finds roughly the same amount of treasure.

*Castaway Bowling: For this activity you can use a toy bowling set or empty plastic bottles and a ball. Have the kids try to knock off the pins from various distances.

*Dance, Backyardigans, Dance!: Play some Backyardigans theme music, and have the little kids dance to the beats!

As a variation, you can play a famous song from the show (for example, "Pirates Say Arr") and invite them to sing along and move around the party area, if they like.

*Catch a Fish with Tasha: Get inexpensive magnetic fishing toy set from a party store. Place the fish into an empty kiddy pool or low box. Get the kids catching fish like Tasha would.

*Bubbles: Purchase containers with bubble solutions. Have the young Backyardigans blow and chase bubbles!

*Race around the World: Divide the group into 2 teams and organize a relay race. The kids can crawl on all fours, hop, run, etc. from one side of the area to another and back.

For a younger group, why not get the parents to race while their kids cheer them on!

*Follow Pablo: Get an adult (or an older sibling) to wear a bow tie or propeller hat, and have him come up with various moves. The young gang must follow him like they would in Follow the Leader game.

*Walk the Plank: Set up a beam several inches off the ground. Make sure it is stable. Invite the kids to walk the plank. Offer prizes for all the attempts, whether successful or not!

*Storytime: At the end of the Backyardigans birthday party, invite the kids to hear a story.

    Food and Drink

    Backyardigan Birthday Cakes:

*Backyardigans Cake: Bake a basic sheet cake, or order one from the bakery. Get Backyardigans cake toppers (available from most party shops) and place them on top of your cake.

*Pirate Ship Cake: This cake is extremely popular with our visitors and it fits the theme very well, too! Instead of pirates, use theme cake toppers.

    Backyardigans Birthday Party Food Ideas:

*Chichen-Itza Pizza (birthday child's favorite pizza)
*Pablo's Peanut Butter & Jelly Sandwiches
*Austin's Kangaroo Pockets: serve miniature pita bread pockets stuffed with tuna salad, vegetables, and other fillings.
    *Backyardigans' Favorite Hotdogs
    *Pablo's Popcorn
    *Graham Crackers
*Uniqua Ice Cream: serve vanilla ice cream with several options for toppings. So the kids can choose the topping they like and make their ice cream flavor "uniqua"!

    Backyardigans Birthday Party Drink Ideas:

    *Tasha's Chocolate Milk
    *Tyrone's Orange Juice
