  • Invitations

For your Barbie party invitations you have a couple of options: either buy or make them yourself. Either way, make sure that the invitations match your overall theme.

Barbie Party Here's how to make your own Barbie birthday party invitations. Cut out 8x10 postcards from a colorful (preferably pink) cardstock paper. Fold postcards in half. Glue a photo of your child (with her Barbie doll, if she has one) on the inside flap.

Write "It's A..." above the picture and "Barbie Doll Party" below it with glitter glue. Include Barbie birthday party details on the other side of the invitation. Put invitations in envelopes with a sprinkle of glitter for a special touch.

You can invite all the Barbie birthday party guests to bring their Barbie dolls and accessories (encourage them to bring extra dolls to share with the other guests).

Inviting girls to Barbie birthday parties is easy. What about boys? Just address them as Princes, G.I. Joes, or Ken (if you have one boy in attendance).

    Decorations

Pink is 'the color' for Barbie birthday party. Use it abundantly.

Hang balloons around the front of your home. Place a banner saying "Welcome to Barbie's Dream House." Tape crepe paper streamers to the doorframe, so the guests get to walk through them.

Hang Barbie posters on the walls. Decorate the party room with any Barbie accessories that you might have: dolls, Barbie house, toy cars, etc. Have pink poster board cut into rectangles. Draw lines around rectangles to make them look like windows. Use tape to attach them to the walls of your party area.

Cover your party table with a pink table cloth. Place a vase of pink flowers as a centerpiece. You can also use your child's favorite Barbie doll for centerpiece. Cut one to two foot-long pieces of curling ribbon. Curl the ribbon by pulling it between your thumb and the blade of scissors. Lay the resulting curls on the table.

You can tie a pink bow around your birthday child's seat. Hang balloons in bunches for best effect by tying a colorful ribbon around the strings of several balloons, so they hang together.

    Guest Arrival and Introductory Activities

Greet your Barbie birthday party guests by welcoming them to "Barbie's Dream House". Hand each child a Barbie tiara or another accessory. Have some children's music playing in the background.

*Color Barbie Station: Direct the kids to an area where you have crayons, pencils, Barbie coloring books, dot-to-dots, etc. That way you have children occupied until all Barbie birthday party guests arrive.

*Barbie Makeover Station: Invite each girl to sit down and receive a makeover with face painting, hair ribbons, nail stickers and accessories. You can use glitter makeup, clip-on earrings, hats, crowns, sparkly belts, capes for boys and other accessories. Ask extra adult or teenager to help out with the activity.

*Guess How Many: Fill a jar with pink jellybeans and have the kids guess how many are in the jar. Give the jellybeans to a child who can guess closest to the amount, and give the leftovers to other players.

    Pinata

Select Barbie birthday party pinata that your child likes. Follow the directions on the pinata as to where and how to insert treats and toys.

To avoid pushing and shoving when the pinata breaks, fill the pinata with favor bags pre-labeled with each child's name.

    Favors

Prepare a favor bag for each Barbie birthday party guest. Fill bags with items such as Barbie tiaras, confetti, necklaces, sunglasses, little notebooks, Barbie stickers, candy, bubble gum, and so on.

For an additional activity, have guests decorate their own bags at the start of the party with stickers, stamps, and crayons.

    Barbie Birthday Party Games

*Decorate Crowns or Tiaras: Provide each guest with a crown or tiara. Kids can decorate them with stickers, markers, glitter, plastic jewels, and so on.

*Jelly Bean Toss: Wrap small amount of jellybeans in plastic wrap. Wrap tissue paper around plastic wrap, and tie closed with a ribbon. Prepare and distribute four jellybean bags to every child.

Line up the kids. They should toss the jellybean bags from various distances into a large diameter bowl.

An alternative to a bowl, you can use several coffee tins decorated with pink paper and stickers.

*Beauty Shop: Cut out products from beauty magazines, omitting the names of the products. Glue the pictures onto construction paper, with the names of the products written lightly on the backs.

Have the kids sit in a circle. Hold up one picture at a time and have the kids write down the names of the products. Tell them to keep the answers secret. When all pictures have been displayed, read the answers out loud to see who guessed the most correct answers.

*Queen and King of the Castle: Have birthday child standing at one side of the room and facing the wall. Line up all the other children on the other side of the room. The players must sneak up and touch the birthday child on the shoulder.

If the birthday child hears a sound, she may turn around. If she spots anyone in motion, then that person must go back to the starting position. When somebody taps the birthday child on the shoulder, that player becomes the queen or king of the castle, and the game starts over.

*Pin the Earring on Barbie: Cut the construction paper into various earring shapes. Place tape or spray adhesive on the earrings to make them stick (let adhesive dry sticky side up). Give each child an earring with their name written on it. With Barbie poster on the wall, blindfold and spin children one by one. Their objective is to pin the earring onto the Barbie poster where it belongs.

*Pass the Princess Wand: Children sit down in a circle. Ask one of the helpers to play music on the CD (without looking at kids) stopping it every 10 to 20 seconds. As the Barbie birthday party music plays, kids start passing the wands as quickly as possible.

When the music stops, the child holding the wand is out of the game. Let that child keep the wand. Hand out another wand and turn the music back on to continue the game. The game ends when everyone is out, and everyone has a wand.

*Candy Necklaces: Fill several bowls with candy and cereal: doughnut-shaped fruity cereal, doughnut-shaped hard candy, doughnut-shaped gummy candy, favorite "O's" cereal. Provide kids with necklace strings and let them create their own edible necklaces.

*Lily Pad Moat Crossing: Cut out four large lily pads from green cardboard (about 12"x15"). Divide children into two equal teams. Ask each team to line up behind a starting line. Give the first person on each team two lily pads. Lily pads are the only thing they can step on as they travel from the front of the line, around a chair and back to the line again.

On the "Go", children place one lily pad on the ground and step on it. Then they place the other lily pad on the ground in front and step on it. They then pick up the first lily pad and place it on the ground in front of the other. When they cross the moat they hand the two lily pads to the next person in line. The team to make it all the way across the moat first wins.

*Disco Dance Time: Prepare some fun and lively music CDs before the Barbie birthday party. Choose one person to be a leader (birthday child will be a leader first). Line up all the other children behind him or her. The leader starts making a lot of dance moves to the music and the rest of the group must follow.

If the leader needs some help, suggest basic moves like hopping, jumping, clapping hands, turning around, etc. Switch leaders every couple of minutes. Play until everyone has had a turn being a leader, or until the kids are ready for another Barbie birthday party game.

Barbie Party Games *Fashion Show: This is a great Barbie birthday party game if your guests have Barbie dolls with them...Ask them to dress their Barbie dolls as much as they can.

Turn the fashion show music on. Each child will walk with her Barbie down the party room (runway) and describe her Barbie clothes. Remind children to pose, stop and turn, and walk back up the runway.

As an alternative, you can have a real fashion show with real models. Prepare some dress up clothes and fashion accessories that the guests can use.

Have the children dress up and model their clothes for everyone to see. This will be a great hit among girls!

*A Call from Barbie: This is a great surprise for your birthday child and the rest of the group. You will need a female helper with nice voice for this game...Hide filled party treat sacks in various locations near the party area. Make a list of Barbie birthday party favor locations, and give it a female helper.

The female helper calls (she can play Nutcracker or similar princess music in the background for fun effect). When you take the call, make an announcement to all the guests that "Barbie" has called and wants to talk to the birthday child!

Have "Barbie" reveal to the birthday child where a hidden present lies. After your child speaks on the phone to "Barbie", make sure every other guest has a quick chance to talk to "Barbie" on the phone. For each guest, have "Barbie" reveal location of a hidden Barbie birthday party favor bag.

    Food and Drink

    Barbie Birthday Cakes:

*Barbie Cake: Ice two or three small round cakes with pink icing. Place each cake on top of each other. Slide a Barbie doll through the center of the cake. To make sure the cakes do not split, use a knife to hollow out a circular area before sliding Barbie into the center.

*Barbie Tiara Cake: Order or make your own sheet cake. Decorate it with roses and add a sparkling tiara on top.

Be sure to view other Barbie cake design ideas.

    Barbie Birthday Party Food Ideas:

*Dainty Dogs: Slice hotdogs lengthwise about halfway through without cutting them apart. Cut cheese into strips. Insert cheese into hotdog cut. Unroll refrigerated crescent rolls (use crescent rolls in a tube) into individual triangles. Place hotdogs onto rolls. Roll up crescent and bake on cookie sheet at 375°F for 10-12 minutes, or until golden brown.

*Pizza Faces: Split English muffins and top them with shredded cheese and pizza sauce. Give half of a muffin to every child. Let the kids decorate them as their own pizza. Children may use pepperoni, mushrooms, olives and peppers to make funny faces. Bake on a cookie sheet at 375°F for 5-10 minutes, or until cheese melts.

*Pink Mac & Cheese: Prepare regular macaroni and cheese. Add red or pink food coloring for pinkish color.

*Heart-shaped Sandwiches: Make sandwiches and cut them into heart shapes.

*Pink Popcorn: Boil 2 cups sugar, 1 cup light corn syrup and 2/3 cup margarine together for 3 minutes. Stir in 1 tsp soda and 2 packs of flavored pink (or red) powder drink mix. Pour over 6 quarts of popcorn. Bake at 225°F for 45 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes. Remove from oven and break-up immediately.

*Star Cookies: Prepare the birthday child's favorite cookies. Cut into star shapes before baking. Decorate with pink sprinkles/jimmies.

*Princess Parfait: Put a layer of yogurt, granola, and fresh fruit into plastic cups. Repeat layers once or twice in each cup. Top with whipping cream.

*Barbie Lollipops: Have pink-colored candies and lollipops in a bowl on your party table.

    Barbie Birthday Party Drink Ideas:

*Pink Lemonade: Prepare pink lemonade mix according to directions. Serve in pretty punch glasses. Garnish each drink with a cherry or strawberry on the rim of the glass.

For extra fun, use cherry or strawberry ice cubes: Fill ice cube tray with water, and let sit for 20 minutes.

Place a small cherry or strawberry into each cube, and then freeze.

*Cherry Soda Blast: Mix raspberry sherbet into the cherry flavored soda for a pink, frothy drink. Garnish with cherries.
