Invitations
Cut out Batman birthday invitations from a black cardstock in the shape of Batman emblem (You can trace the emblem onto the cardstock beforehand). Next, decorate Batman party invitations with stickers or drawings. Write you party details on the back with a silver marker. For a slightly different idea, you can take a picture of your child in his or her Batman costume , and then print the black-and-white picture onto brightly colored cardstock. Write something like "The Penguin has escaped. Come help (your child's name) save Gotham city, so he (or she) can celebrate his (or her) __th birthday. Please report to the Bat-cave (Include your address)." Finally, you can photocopy Batman comic strip. White out the original speech bubbles, and then include your party details instead.
Decorations
It's a great idea to have as much black color as possible for your decorations. Hang black balloons and streamers all over the party area (outside and inside the house). Post a large sign on your fence (or in front of the walkway) saying "Welcome to Gotham". Have big yellow question marks drawn on the walkway leading to the house. Cover the walls of your party room with black fabric or Batman posters. Hang cob webs and plastic bats from the ceiling. Cut posters out of yellow construction paper, and write phrases like POW, BAM, and KABLAM with black marker. Hang those posters on the wall. Enlarge comic strips at you neighborhood copy center. Attach them to the wall or make table cover out of them for some extra fun. Cut out big bat shapes from black construction paper for your guests' placemats. Use your child's Batman toys as a centerpiece on the Batman party table.
Guest Arrival and Introductory Activities
Greet children as they arrive and welcome them to the party. Play Batman music in the background on low volume. Give each kid a Batman mask, a cape and glow-in-the dark necklace. *Batman Cave: Have the party guests enter the "Bat Cave." Place a card table in the entry way to your party area and place a banner labeling it as the "Bat Cave". Have the kids crawl under the card table to enter the party. As an alternative, you can set up this cool Bat Cave . *Decorate Batman Mask: You can get the kids to decorate their Batman masks with all kind of stickers - Batman, stars, Batmobile, etc. This is a great way to personalize the masks! *"Batmobile" Race Car Activity : Have the kids color their own batmobiles using brushes and colorful paints.
Favors Have Batman party favors for each child. They can include Batman stickers, disc launchers, bat-a-rangs, yo-yo's, rocket balloon launchers, color glow sticks, crayons, etc. Take a look at this favor pack for more ideas.
Batman Party Games *Mr. Freeze: Before the party get some music ready (Batman theme music is ideal). Kids must dance while the music plays, but must freeze when it stops. Start playing the music. Stop the music. When all the children have frozen, start the music again. Keep repeating, letting the music play for different lengths of time.
*Bat Collector: This is a great Batman party game to play outside. Cut bat shapes out of black poster board. Tape several bats on the back of each child. The goal for each player is to collect bats by taking them off the backs of other players. At the end of one minute of play, determine who has the most bats. *Pin the Bat on Batman: Mount a Batman poster on the wall. Cut bat shapes out of black poster board. Place a piece of tape on the back of each bat. Blindfold each child, then spin them around, and point them toward Batman. The player who sticks his or her bat closest to Batman's face is the winner! *Stomp the Villains: Place a couple pieces of candy inside balloons. Next, blow up the balloons, with the candy inside. Use black marker to write the names of the villains, or draw their pictures on each balloon. Announce to the kids that they will find a reward for stomping on the villains. The players stomp on the balloons to reveal candy. *Capture the Riddler: Make cards out of paper by folding it in half, drawing a yellow question mark on one side, and writing the clue on the inside. Slip the cards into envelopes decorated with yellow question marks. Possible clues may include: "I like to play jokes on folks, then hide when I'm able. So get down on your hands and knees and look under the table."
"I'm cold on the inside, and I run all day and all night long" (Answer: refrigerator).
"The place where young children play with bubbles" (Answer: bathroom). "The place where snoring can be heard" (Answer: bedroom). During the game, the players must follow the clues left by the Riddler. Supervise as the children figure out each clue. Have the final clue lead to a location where you placed a card with the word 'Captured' over the picture or the name of a villain, such as the Riddler. *Mr. Bubble: This activity is best done outdoors. Fill wading pool with water and bubble mix (or water, dishwater liquid and a small amount of glycerin). Place a stepping stool in the center of the pool. Place the hula-hoop in the pool around the stepping stool. Have each child take turns standing on the stepping stool. Pull the hula-hoop over children, who will immediately find themselves inside a giant bubble. Take lots of pictures! These pictures can be mailed with 'thank you' notes after the party. *Bat Senses Test: Before the party tape-record different sounds, such as a car turning on, a bicycle bell, teapot boiling/whistling, etc. Take pictures of everyday items, and have them greatly enlarged or reduced. At game time, have all players sit in a circle. Explain that their super powers are about to be tested. First, test their super hearing abilities by playing the pre-recorded sounds one at a time. Either have the children yell out their guesses to the names of the sounds, or have them write answers on pieces of paper. Second, test their super abilities to see. Reveal the enlarged and reduced pictures of everyday items one at a time. Have everyone guess the items. Finally, test their super tasting abilities. Blindfold one of the guests. Bring out a bowl full of items to eat. Make sure to cover the bowl with a napkin so the other kids can't see all of the items. Take one food item out and let the blindfolded child taste that food. Keep feeding the child different food items until the child guesses correctly. Then move on to the next child. *Batman Obstacle Course: Set an obstacle course outside or inside a large room. Have household items like cardboard boxes, hula-hoops, chairs, pillows, garbage cans, sports equipment, Batman toys, etc. for obstacles. Walk the children through the course and show them where they need to jump over, run around, or crawl through the items.
Next, let them go through the obstacle course one by one. Play Batman theme music in the background. Every time a player completes the course, he or she will get a small prize or a toy. You can time them to see who can be the fastest to the finish line. *Batman's Airplane: Have adults help the kids make airplanes out of black construction paper. Next, have a medium-sized cardboard box placed on the table. Cover the cardboard box with black construction paper and decorate it with streamers, so it looks like Bat-Cave. The purpose of the game is to lend airplanes (Batman Planes) inside the cardboard (Bat-Cave). Have children launch their paper planes from various distances.
Food and Drink Batman Birthday Cake: *Batman Cake: Layer 9x13 inch pan with wax paper. Frost inside of the pan with cool whip. Thaw ice cream (pick your child's favorite flavor). Layer ice cream over whipped cream. Crush chocolate cookies and place over the ice cream. Layer remaining ice cream over chocolate cookies. Place wax paper on top and press to remove air bubbles. Freeze for a day. Just before the party, flip the pan over and remove wax paper. Decorate cake with candy or a Batman toy. Write the words "POW!", "KABLAM!", and "BAM!" across the top of the cake in a zigzagged pattern with decorative frosting. Batman Birthday Party Food Ideas: *Power Sandwiches: Prepare peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Announce that the sandwiches are 'Power Sandwiches'.
