Bee Birthday Party Ideas

If you're looking for a fun and outrageous party idea, then bee birthday party theme is perfect for you!

Here you will find everything you need to throw a fantastic bumble bee party for your child. Start your party planning in advance, and have a blast!

Resources:

  • Party Supplies
  • Free Printable Invitations

  • Invitations

Make your birthday party invitations in shapes of bumble bees. Draw and cut large bee shapes out of yellow construction paper. Add stripes with black marker. Then cut 'wings' out of vellum, and attach them to the bee cutouts. Next, glue pipe cleaners for antennae. Write party details on a blank side of the invites.

For an easier invitation design, you can download fun bee cartoon images off the internet, and print them on white invitation cards. Write "It's a BEE-Day!" on the front of the cards. Then open the cards, and write the remainder of the party information. Decorate the cards with theme stickers.

To make it even more fun, you can take a picture of your child wearing a bee costume, and print that image on the invitations instead!

Just remember to mail your invites about 3 weeks before the party.

    Decorations

For bumble bee birthday party decorations, try to use as much yellow color as you can. Draw large bee shapes on sturdy paper. Have your child help you draw stripes and other bee features. Then laminate the cutouts and tape them to the fence near the entrance and all over the area.

Spread out paper flowers around the yard. Stick pinwheels in the ground on both sides of the walkway leading to the front door. Post a sign that says "Welcome to Bumble Bee Party!"

Tie yellow and black balloons in bunches, so you end up having roughly 3/4 of the balloons in yellow color. Spread out plastic bees or other insects around furniture. Hang theme images: bee hives, flowers, and so forth. Fill the "empty space" with yellow paper streamers.

Cover the table with a yellow cloth. Scatter some bug-shaped confetti all around it. Put candy in a large terra-cotta pot, and place it in the middle of the table for a centerpiece. Hang bee shapes from the ceiling on fishing lines.

    Guest Arrival and Introductory Activities

*Bumble Bee Transformations: As the guests enter the door, give them bee antennae headbands. Use face paint to draw small flowers on their cheeks and black dots on their noses.

*Garden Mural: Hang several sheets of butcher paper at kids' eye level on the wall. Give the guests crayons, markers, and paints and invite them to create a garden scene. Have them draw flowers, grass, and bugs flying around.

If you're entertaining very young kids, be sure to have an adult supervising this activity -- so none of them draw on the wall.

*Bee Theme Craft: You can get this inexpensive kit from a party store, and have the children create their own bee tote bags.

    Favors

Your bumble bee party favors can include such items as theme coloring pages and stickers, gel pens, bee headbands, cool T-shirts, plastic bugs, and so on.

    Bumble Bee Birthday Party Games

*Catch Bugs: Hide plastic insects around the scene before the party. At activity time, hand the kids small paper bags and send them on a hunt to "catch" as many bugs as they can. Help those who have a hard time finding items.

*Bug Eating Challenge: Place some gummy bugs in bowls and challenge the kids to eat them without using their hands. See who can clean up their bowls the fastest. Award prizes to all the contestants.

*Pin the Bee on the Flower: Before the party, draw a large flower on poster board. Cut bee shapes out of yellow construction paper. Put double-sided tape on the cutouts.

At game time, blindfold the kids and get them to stick their bees on the flower where they belong.

*Grasshopper, Grasshopper, Bumblebee: Play a theme version of Duck, Duck, Goose game.

*"Bee" Bag Toss: Purchase inexpensive beanbags, or fill socks with rice and beans. Decorate them so they resemble bees.

Place buckets or plastic terra pots on the floor. Have the children toss beanbags from a distance for points.

*Funny Garden Food: Purchase unusual looking veggies and fruits: kumquats, poi, turnips, passion fruit, etc.

Show the items to the group one at a time, and get the kids to guess them. If they don't know what the item is, have them create a name for that specific item. Award prizes to everyone for participating.

*Bug Everyone: Print images of various insects off the internet. Tape the pictures to the backs of the children without them looking.

Get them to ask everyone else questions about who they are, that can be answered "yes" or "no." For example, the questions may be: "Do I crawl?", "Do I collect nectar?", and so forth. Provide clues for younger kids.

*Watch the Show: Plug in Bee animated movie in a DVD player, and invite the children to watch an episode. It's a perfect activity for giving kids a chance to unwind at the end of the party.

    Food and Drink

    Bumble Bee Birthday Cake:

*Bee Cake: Bake 2 round cakes. Stack one cake on top of the other and frost with yellow frosting. Create black stripes by spreading chocolate from the base of the cake, all the way around the body. Then stick licorice strings for antennae and mouth. Add gumdrops for eyes.

    Bee Birthday Party Food Ideas:

*Crackernids: Spread almond butter on a round cracker, then take 4 licorice strings and spread them across the cracker. Trim licorice, if necessary.

Next, take another cracker and spread almond butter on it, too. Then "sandwich" the two crackers together. Dip 2 raisins in almond butter, and stick them on top of the formed "insect" for eyes.

*Garden Face Sandwiches: Prepare peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Then decorate with fruits and veggies cut to resemble funny faces.

    *Macaroni & Cheese
    *Caterpillar Hotdogs
    *Ice Cream
    *Gummy Worms
    *Chips & Dip
    *Flower-shaped Sandwiches
    *Honey Candies

    Bee Birthday Party Drink Ideas:

*Sunny Lemonade: Mix 1 cup lemon juice, 1 cup sugar, and 6 cups cold water. Stir the mixture with the spoon, until the sugar dissolves completely. Garnish with lemon slices and serve.

    *Fruit Nectar
