Blue's Clues Birthday Party Ideas

Blue's Clues birthday party theme would be ideal for kids of up to about 7 years of age. I have included party ideas here that would help in organizing your Blue's Clues event.

Resources:

  • Party Supplies
  • Free Printable Invitations

  • Invitations

You can have some fun with Blue's Clues birthday invitations. Make special Joe's Handy Dandy notebooks out of light blue poster board cut in long rectangles. Punch holes and twist wire (for spiral notebooks) or paper strips to hold pieces of post board together. Put "Thinking Chair" stickers on the front of the notebooks.

On the first page of your notebook invitations you can write: "Hello, Joe here. Blue has something special to tell us about. Want to play Blue's Clues to figure out what it is? You do?! Let's play!" Next, put 3 pictures or stickers of birthday items (like Blue's Clues birthday party hats, birthday cake with candles, gift box, etc) on the same page for clues.

Blues Clues On the next page you can write: "We have all 3 clues now, what do we do? Sit in our thinking chair and think". The next page can say: "Do you know what Blue is trying to tell us? (Your child's name) __th birthday! Right!!" You can write all your Blue's Clues party information on the final page.

For a completely different idea, cut 5"x7" cards out of cardstock paper. Next, fold the cards in half.

Then draw (or put a sticker) of "Thinking Chair" on the front of the cards with photo of your child glued on top of the chair. Next, surround the picture with Blue's Clues characters, like Magenta, Mr. Salt and Mrs. Pepper, Tickety Tock, etc.

On the inside flap of the invitations you can write "Blue will be joining us, so don't be late!" Next, include all your Blue's Clues birthday party details.

    Decorations

Decorate your backyard, front of the house and Blue's Clues birthday party area with blue, silver, and clear balloons. Remember to hang blue paper streamers around the area as well! Attach "Welcome to Blue's House" banner to your front door. Place blue paw-prints (or draw prints with blue chalk) all the way up your pathway to your front door.

If you have blue curtains - hang them up for a great color impact around your windows. Designate a "Thinking Chair" and cover it with a red cloth. Decorate your Blue's Clues birthday party room with any Blue's Clues theme toys that your child might have. Have toy pails and shovels around the party area. Make sure to decorate your clock as Tickety Tock in the Show.

For your party table decorations, a fun Blue's Clues birthday party idea would be to cut out paw prints out of construction paper (draw them first) for your guests' personalized place mats. For table centerpieces have big shakers of salt and pepper (for Mr. Salt and Mrs. Pepper from the Show). Fill 2 smaller shakers, one with cinnamon, and other with paprika (Paprika and Cinnamon - Mr. Salt and Mrs. Pepper's children).

    Guest Arrival and Introductory Activities

Greet the children as they arrive and welcome them to "Your Blue's Clues Party House". Give each child a Handy Dandy notebook.

*Blue's Clues Coloring Pages: Give each child a Blue's Clues birthday party hat, and direct the kids to an area, where several coloring book pages (mazes, dot-to-dots, etc.) will keep the children occupied until everyone arrives.

*Paint a Mailbox: You can get a kit from a party store that includes papier mache mailboxes with brushes and paint included. Write the kids' names on each mailbox before they start painting, and get them to have some fun with this decorating activity.

    Favors

You can have some fun with Blue's Clues party favors. Give each child a favor box with Handy Dandy notebooks, crayons, magnifying glasses.

Other favor ideas include Blue's Clues sticker sheet, bouncing ball, Blue's Clues bubbles, Dog Bone cups, etc.

    Blue's Clues Birthday Party Games

*Follow Blue: Before your Blue's Clues party, get some children's music ready. Next, choose a leader and have all the Blue's Clues birthday party guests line up behind him or her. Have the leader make all sorts of creative moves, and the rest of the line follows. If the leader needs some help, you can suggest hopping, jumping, twirling or rolling on the ground.

Pick a new leader every few minutes. Play until everyone has had a turn, or until the kids are ready for a new activity.

*Barking Contest: Gather the children around, and one-by-one, get them to compete in this outrageous barking contest. After kids finished barking, award prizes for the funniest, scariest, loudest, etc. bark. (Make sure that every child gets an award - come up with as many different nominations as you can!)

*Pin the Party Hat on Blue: Mount a Blue's Clues poster on the wall. Cut party hat shapes from poster board. Place a piece of tape on the back of each child's hat before the Blue's Clues birthday party.

At party time, have your Blue's Clues birthday party guests color their hats. One by one, blindfold children, spin them around, point them towards Blue and get them to pin the hat where it belongs.

*Ha, Ha, Ha!: Have the kids sit or stand in a circle. One player begins the game by saying, "Ha". The next player says, "Ha, Ha", followed by the next player who says, "Ha, Ha, Ha," and so on around the circle with each player adding a "Ha" to the string. The object of the game is to keep a straight face. Each player must say the "Ha's" solemnly, to avoid laughter as long as possible.

Any player who laughs or makes a mistake must drop out of the circle. However, he or she then gets to try to make the remaining players laugh in any way (except by touching them). The most serious player (the one who keeps the straight face the longest) wins the game.

*Trainer Says: This is a variation of classic Simon Says game. Choose one child to be the Trainer. Get him or her to command the kids to do various dog activities such as roll over, wag your tail, growl, bark, etc. If the Trainer does not start the sentence with "Trainer Says..." the children should not follow the command. Those who do must sit out the rest of the game.

*Blue's Clues Treasure Hunt: The best part of this Blue's Clues birthday party game is the way children become engaged in their search for clues, from writing in their Handy Dandy notebooks, to sitting in the "Thinking Chair". Choose a theme for the hunt. For example, "Party Favor Creation" where treasures begin with little favor bags and continue with treats to fill those favor bags.

Another popular Blue's Clues birthday theme is "Tea Time" where treasures include cups, herbal tea bags and honey or cinnamon sticks. Yet another idea is "Birthday Food", where all the treasures lead to the meal.

Acquire treasures suitable for the theme and hide them in three different parts of your yard or areas in your home. Next, draw or cut out paw prints on construction paper and place somewhere near the treasures. Or use index cards with a paw print sticker.

Write clues on the blue paw prints. Use clues that would be easy for children to solve, such as "I'm cold on the inside, and I run all day and all night long." (Answer: refrigerator). Other clues might include the following: "The place where the birthday child watches Blue's Clues?" (Answer: TV room). "The place where the boys and girls love to play with bubbles?" (Answer: bathroom). "The place where sometimes snoring can be heard?" (Answer: bedroom).

At the start of the game, explain to the Blue's Clues birthday party guests that there are three objects that they are looking for, and they should draw what they find in their Handy Dandy notebooks. When they find their second treasure, let each child sit in the "Thinking Chair" to ponder what the last treasure may be (see decoration ideas for the "Thinking Chair"). After they have a moment in the chair, they look for the third clue.

*Catch Blue's Tail: This game is best played outdoors. Cut strips about two inches wide and one foot long from the table-cover or blue paper. Knot one end. Have children tie the knots into the back of their waistbands. Let the kids run around and strive to get as many tails as possible. Whoever grabs the most tails wins.

    Thinking Chair

*Thinking Chair: Cover a chair in the party room with a red sheet or fabric. Gather you Blue's Clues birthday party guests around the "Thinking Chair". Bring out a tray with several household (or kitchen) items: Salt and pepper shakers, spoon, fork, crayon, etc. Get one of the kids to seat in the chair.

Next, you can proceed to another room and take away one of the items. You can then return to the party room, and get the child sitting in the "Thinking Chair" guess what item is missing. Proceed with game and get the kids to take turns in solving the "missing item" mystery.

*Pail, Pail, Shovel: Shovel and Pail are Blue's sidekicks. This game is another version of classic "Duck, Duck, Goose" game, but instead of a goose chasing a duck, a shovel chases a pail.

Have the kids sit in a circle. To start, get the birthday child to walk around the circle and call each guest, "Pail". After several Pails have been tapped, the birthday child yells out "Shovel!" The Shovel then jumps up and chases the birthday child. If the birthday child gets all the way around the circle and sits in the vacant seat without being tagged, then the 'Shovel' becomes 'It'. You can play this game several times until each child has had a chance to chase or being chased.

*Tickety Tock: Let kids create their own clocks out of paper plates and paint. Provide a paper plate for each child. Have children color the edges of paper dinner plates red, then help them draw the clock's numbers around the center of the plate.

Draw or paint two oval eyes and smile in the center. Cut out the bells from blue foam, and alarm and feet from black foam. Glue the bells on the top corners of the clock, the feet on the bottom corners and the alarm in the top center with craft glue. Cut out the clock's hands from black foam and fasten in the center.

    Food and Drink

    Blue's Clues Birthday Cake:

*Blue's Clues Cake: Bake a round cake of any flavor. Prepare or buy four cupcakes. Next, frost both the cakes and cupcakes with blue frosting. Simply add the cupcakes along the top of the round cake and you have Blue's paw print!

Blue's Clues Birthday Party Food Ideas:

*Mr. Salt, Mrs. Pepper and Paprika Deviled Eggs: Place eggs in large saucepan, fill with water two-thirds from the top, add a pinch of salt and bring to boil. Cover the pan and set timer for four minutes. Turn off the heat when timer rings. Allow eggs to cool. When cooled, crack eggs by gently tapping or rolling them on the counter and peel off the shells.

Cut the eggs in half and drop the yolks into a medium-sized bowl. With a fork, mash the yolks with 6 tbsp. mayo and 2-3 tbsp. relish. Fill egg whites with a spoonful of yolk mixture and sprinkle with paprika.

*Jigglin' Hounds: Make blueberry flavored gelatin following directions on gelatin package. Use dog-shaped cookie cutter to cut out shapes. Then lay them on a platter.

*Blue's Sandwiches: Cut out slices of bread using dog-bone cookie cutters. Cut other ingredients (meat, cheese, etc.). Assemble the sandwiches and put them on a platter.

*Blue's Clues Mac & Cheese (Made by Kraft Foods)

    *Handy Dandy Hamburgers
    *Tickety Tock Tortellini
    *Periwinkle Fish Sticks
    *Magenta & Blue Jelly Beans
    *Corn Dogs
    *Hotdogs
    *Blue M&M's

Blue's Clues Birthday Party Drink Ideas:

*Blue Lemonade: Add blue food coloring to lemonade and chill. As a variation, you can puree blueberries (1 pint) and add the puree to lemonade instead.

*Blue's Favorite Drink: Fill ice cube trays with water and let stand at room temperature for an hour to remove air bubbles. Place two pieces of gummy bite-sized candy (of the same color) in each section of the ice cube tray.

Prepare a blue powder drink mix beverage according to directions on the package. Pour the beverage into a punch bowl and add 2 liters of ginger ale. Chill the beverage for several hours before serving. When it's time to serve, place two or three gummy cubes into each clear glass and fill with punch.

*Satisfying Slurpin' Punch: You will need one of each: 10 oz package frozen strawberries, 10 oz package frozen raspberries, 12 oz can frozen lime juice concentrate, 32 oz bottle of ginger ale, 32 oz bottle of club soda, 1 pint vanilla ice cream.

Partially thaw frozen fruit. Puree fruit in blender and combine with the lime juice concentrate. Chill for at least one hour. Pour mixture into a punch bowl; add ginger ale, club soda and scoops of vanilla ice cream.
