Invitations
Create bowling ball invitations: fold sheets of black construction paper in half and cut out circles. Be sure not to cut the edge of the circle where the paper is folded (this will hold the two parts of the card together).
Decorate the tops of the round cards with three small white circles. Open the cards and write something like "Come have a ball at (your child's name) Bowling Birthday Bash! We will have a Striking Good Time!" Then add the remaining bowling birthday party details.
For a slightly different invitation idea, cut out several bowling pins from white construction paper. Draw stripes on the necks of the pins using a felt-tip pen. Write a few of the party details on one pin, more details on the next pin, and so on.
Stick the pins in envelopes and mail to the bowling birthday party guests. When they open the envelopes and pour out the pins, they'll have to piece the information together to figure out what it says.
You can also pick some brochures at your local bowling alley, write the bowling party details inside with a black marker, and mail to guests.
Decorations
You can have various colors for your bowling party decorations. I suggest that you have purple, blue, red and a pinch of black.
Make giant bowling balls and pins from black tagboard or construction paper. Write the names of you bowling party guests on the balls and pins. Next, mount them on the fence, the side of the house, or on the backyard trees. Put a sign "(your last name) Bowling Alley" near the front door.
Make a large bowling scoreboard from a poster board and mount it on the fence or wall. You can also hang bowling theme posters on the wall as well. Blow up helium (or latex) balloons, and tie them to the chairs. Draw three dots on the side of each balloon to make them look like bowling balls.
Cover the bowling birthday party table with theme table cover. Cut out personalized bowling balls out of construction paper for place mats, and set them on the party table. Use bowling pins as table centerpieces. Hang personalized "Happy Birthday!" banner in the party table area.
Guest Arrival and Introductory Activities
Greet your bowling birthday party guests with your child and invite them to your "Bowling Alley."
*Bowling Coloring Pages: Spread out activity books around your party area. Have kids color in bowling coloring pages with pencils and crayons.
*Bowling Pins Decoration Activity: You can get Pins Decoration Kit from a party store. Let the kids decorate their pins with paint. They can take their masterpieces home as bowling party favors when finished.
Favors
For your bowling birthday party favors, you can give out such items as bowling pins, stickers, bowling pin sports bottles, keychains, mini bowling bags, etc.
Bowling Birthday Party Games
*Batty Bowling: Find a number of silly or odd items that can be knocked over by a ball: milk cartons, candlesticks, stand-up dolls, plastic vase of flowers, pizza boxes, tower of empty cans, breakfast cereal boxes, books, etc.
Line them up like bowling pins and let the bowlers try to knock them over with volleyballs, tennis balls, or golf balls.
*Bucketball Relay: For this game you will need two small buckets (or other small containers or boxes) and two small balls.
Divide your bowling birthday party group into 2 teams. Players must walk to the bucket keeping the ball between their knees. Next, they must drop the ball into the bucket without using their hands. Lastly, they have to pick the ball from the bucket with their hands, and run to the starting line as fast as they can to pass the ball to the next player.
The team to finish first - wins!
*Strike!: Before the party, prepare your own version of Pin the Tail game. Cut out ten bowling pins and several balls (enough balls for everyone) out of construction paper. Then tape the bowling pins to the wall or poster board.
At party time, blindfold the players, spin them around, and get them to stick their ball as close to designated bowling pin as they can. Let them play several rounds - so they have more chances to succeed!
*Bocce: Let the kids play a round of this popular Italian game. Place a stone or another small object in the center of the backyard and then take turns tossing pebbles, or pennies at it. Whoever lands his or her pebble or coin closest to the stone wins.
You can also play an "authentic" version of the game with Bocce balls.
*Line Bowling: Instead of setting up the pins in a triangular pattern, set them up in a long row. Let one player roll a ball to knock over a pin. If the player is successful, let him or her go again. If not, the line is reset and the turn moves to another player. Whoever knocks the objects over, one by one, wins.
*Domino Bowling: Buy a bunch of inexpensive dominoes and give equal amounts to all the bowling birthday party guests. Have them spread out on the patio or driveway and build a domino track by standing each domino upright close to one another. When everyone's finished, let one child knock over the first domino as the other guests watch.
*Crazy Frame: Here is a variation for your bowling birthday party games. Instead of regular bowling technique, make a list of criteria that the bowlers must follow for each frame of the game. For example, they have to bowl with their eyes closed, bowl between the birthday child's legs, bowl with their backs turned, bowl while balanced on one foot, or even bowl in the dark!
Let them come up with their own criteria as well. Kids will absolutely love it!
*Birthday Cake Hunt: Create a hunt where the kids must find the birthday cake. You might want to get help from family members, siblings, and neighbors. Write clues before the party.
At party time, divide the kids into two teams and get them to have a friendly competition locating the cake using clues. They must be fast on their feet and use team work!
*Squirt Gun Bowling: Instead of bowling balls, use a water gun. Make paper pins by cutting out small white construction paper triangles. Then fold them into cones and pop them on a fence or table. Give each child 5-10 seconds to squirt the pins over, then reset the pins and let the next child go. Keep score. Whoever has the highest score after fiver rounds - wins.
Food and Drink Bowling Birthday Cake:
*Bowling Cake: Bake two chocolate cakes in round pans. Layer the cakes and frost them with light-colored frosting. Draw alleys with black or chocolate tube icing.
Top the bowling cake with tiny toy bowling pins (available at bakery shops or party stores) or small white mints. Set up in triangular formation, and put malt balls for bowling balls. Bowling Birthday Party Food Ideas:
*Power Balls: Boil 8 eggs, then crack and peel them carefully. Divide 1 lb of ground beef or sausage into 8 equal portions and flatten each into 5" round patty. Wrap patties around the eggs covering them completely.
Beat two raw eggs thoroughly in a bowl. Roll each wrapped egg in the beaten egg mixture. Next, roll the wrapped eggs in crushed saltine crackers covering completely with crumbs. Arrange eggs in shallow baking dish, and bake for 20-30 minutes until the meat is no longer pink. Serves 8.
*Veggie Bowls: For this bowling birthday party recipe, you'll need 6 large tomatoes and 6 cups potato salad. Slice the tomatoes in half almost all the way, leaving the bottom intact. Next, slice the tomatoes crosswise, again leaving the bottom intact. Continue in the same manner until you have 8 wedges in each tomato.
Gently open the wedges (without breaking the tomato), and fill each tomato with potato salad. Next, press the wedges together to form a flower-like shape. Garnish the tomato tops with a piece of cilantro. Serves 6.
*Bowling Balls & Pins: Make edible bowling balls and pins using meatballs and tiny wieners. Serve with a dipping sauce.
*Bowling Alley Pizza: Have pizza in various flavors. *Hotdogs *Nachos *Hamburgers *Ice Cream Bowling Birthday Party Drink Ideas:
*Bowler's Thirst-Quencher: Combine 16-oz applesauce, with a partially thawed can of 12-oz frozen orange juice. Add 48 oz of water and mix well together.
