Invitations
How about creating your Buzz Lightyear birthday invitations with your child pictured together with Buzz on the front?!
You can make the invitations yourself or use the services of your neighborhood copy center. Just copy a picture of Buzz Lightyear. You can use one of the Photo Editor programs to add your child's photo next to Buzz's.
Cut out invitation cards (about 4"X5"). Print the edited picture on the front of your invitations.
The wording of your Buzz Lightyear birthday party invitations can say: "Calling all Space Rangers! This is Star Command. Buzz Lightyear and Space Ranger (your child's name) need your help... Mission: Come join team Lightyear and defeat Emperor Zurg's plan to end all birthdays.
Space Launch Date: (your party date) Sector: (your address) Time: (time of the party) RSVP to Star Command Control Center (you phone number). To Infinity and Beyond!"
You can decorate your invitations with theme drawings and any Buzz Lightyear stickers that you might have.
Decorations
The best colors for your Toy Story party decorations are lime (or neon) green, orange, purple and turquoise. It's great to have balloons and paper streamers in those colors.
You can use a sidewalk chalk to draw a picture of a rocket (with LGM looking out the window) and write a birthday message (get your child to help you). Hang a sign (or banner) above your front door saying "Welcome to Star Command Control Center."
Put 'glow in the dark' stars on the ceiling of your party room and hang dark neon styrofoam balls to look like planets. Spread theme items like Buzz Lightyear toys, space puzzles, etch-a-sketch, etc. around the room. You can hang posters with space or Buzz Lightyear theme on the wall.
Cover your table with Buzz Lightyear birthday party theme table cloth. Put Buzz Lightyear toy or any neon-colored items that you might have as centerpieces (you can get some inexpensive neon toys from a dollar store). Hang personalized "Happy Birthday!" banner near the party table.
Guest Arrival and Introductory Activities
Greet all your Buzz Lightyear birthday party guests and welcome them to your Star Command Control Center.
*Buzz Lightyear Coloring Pages: Separate the pages of Pixar activity book. Lay out some crayons, pencils, etc. Have the kids color the Buzz Lightyear coloring pages while waiting for others to arrive.
*Toy Time: Gather your child's favorite toys in a designated area and let the kids have some fun. This is a perfect opportunity for the kids to get comfortable with each other. Make sure to incorporate as many theme characters as you can, if that is possible.
Favors
Kids will be excited about their special Toy Story party favors. You can give out Buzz Lightyear characters, sticker sheets, toy spacecrafts, candies, glow necklaces, etc. You don't have to spend a lot of money - just make your favors as personable as possible!
Buzz Lightyear Birthday Party Games
*Space Treasure Hunt: You can play this game inside or outside. Get the kids excited to go on an "Outer Space Mission" to find items that Buzz left behind him. The treasure hunt items can include paper plates, candy, toys, etc. Some kids (depending on their age) might need some help - so be there for them!
*Bubble-Mania: Give each of your Buzz Lightyear birthday party guests a bubble solution and a bubble wand. Get the children to blow various size bubbles, the most bubbles in one try, etc. You can get personalized bubble solution bottles from a party store and let the kids take them home as favors.
*Buzz and Space Ranger Team Message Mix-Up: Have the kids form a circle. Get the birthday child think of a message that Buzz needs to transfer to his team of space rangers, and have him or her whisper it to the person on his or her left. That person continues in the same manner, and so on until the message gets to the person next to birthday child's right. He or she will say the message out loud.
Play the game several rounds (or until the kids are ready for a new activity) with another player starting a new message. As you can imagine, there will be a difference between original and final messages.
*Stick a Badge on Buzz: You can purchase a Buzz Lightyear poster (or print and blow up the image). Before the Buzz Lightyear birthday party, cut out badges from construction paper. Put your guests' names on them.
At party time, blindfold each child one by one, spin them around twice and get them to stick their badges as close to Buzz's chest as possible (draw a badge on the chest beforehand). Get the children to applaud the person who gets it the closest. Give small prizes to all the participants.
*Space Mission Relay: Before the Buzz Lightyear birthday party, cut out 4 large foot-shaped pieces from a green cardboard (about 12"X15"). Divide the kids into 2 equal teams. Line them up and explain that the feet become the only thing they can step on as they travel from the front of the line, around a chair and back to the line again.
The game starts as first two players on each team step on one foot with one leg. Then they put a second foot in front of them and step with another leg on it. When the first player from each team crosses the finish line, he or she passes the "cardboard feet" to the next player in line.
The team that finishes the course first - wins. Tip: Keep your course short, but adjust the length of the course based on the kids' age and ability.
*Balloon Float: Before the Buzz Lightyear birthday party, blow up the balloons. Paste a picture or write a name of a character on each balloon (Buzz Lightyear, LGM, Hamm, XR, Commander Nebula, Ty Parsec, etc).
Have all the Buzz Lightyear birthday party guests gather around while you toss the balloons in the air. The objective of the game is to keep the balloons afloat by hitting them.
*Robot Freeze Tag: It's best to play this Buzz Lightyear party game outside. Designate the birthday child to be a "robot maker". He or she will run around tagging other participants. If a player becomes a "robot" he must freeze. Other players can unfreeze "robots" by touching them. The player to be made into a robot 3 times is the next robot maker.
*Watch a Show: At the end of the Buzz Lightyear birthday party, let the kids watch Buzz Lightyear video. Some will be waiting for their rides - so it's a perfect activity to occupy them.
Food and Drink Buzz Lightyear Birthday Cake:
*Buzz Lightyear Cake: First, bake a large sheet cake and frost it with dark blue frosting in a swirl pattern to look like space. Then sprinkle blue edible glitter on the swirls.
Second, bake two half-sphere cakes. Frost one to look like the Moon with gray frosting, and then make 'craters' all over it with a melon baller. Frost the other 1/2 sphere cake with smooth orange frosting to look like Saturn. Put those two cakes on the sheet cake in 2 separate corners diagonally from each other.
Lastly, put Buzz Lightyear cake toppers on the sheet cake (available from a party store). Buzz Lightyear Birthday Party Food Ideas:
