Cinderella Birthday Party Ideas

Have a fairy tale come true at your Cinderella birthday party. Invite your guests to a magic world of kings, queens, princes and princesses!

Resources:

  • Party Supplies
  • Free Printable Invitations

  • Invitations

For your Cinderella birthday invitations, use rough golden-colored paper. Write your party details using old English font, then burn the paper edges to give the invitations a "medieval" look. Roll them into scrolls, and tie each one with a blue ribbon.

The wording of your Cinderella party invitations can say: "Hear Ye, Hear Ye! By order of the King and Queen, Princess/Knight (guest's name) is cordially invited to the (your last name) Castle for a Royal Ball to celebrate Princess (your child's name) __th Birthday! The Royal celebration will begin at (time) in the afternoon of (date). Please RSVP to the Queen at (phone number) if you plan to attend this royal gala."

As a variation, download an image of Cinderella and print copies on the front of white invitation cards. Write your Cinderella birthday party details inside. Decorate the invitations with theme stickers.

    Decorations

Ideas for your Cinderella party decorations are endless. Use colors that convey elegance: silver, blue, purple, pink, etc. Hanging pretty helium balloons everywhere will create "royal" feel to your party.

Cinderella Write "Once upon a time..." on four large sheets of poster paper (one word per sheet), and tape them to your fence. If you have some extra time, you can cut cardboard to look like a castle, and staple (or tape) it to the fence.

Paint the "castle" purple and spray it with glitter to make it shine. Attach a bunch of helium balloons to a light post or a mailbox to mark your Cinderella birthday party spot!

You can get Castle Gate decoration (available from party stores), and place it near the driveway entrance. (You can also make your own entrance using picture as a guide.) Buy a roll of red table cloth and secure it on the ground starting from outside, through "castle entrance", and leading all the way to the front door.

Decorate the yard with large pumpkins (if available) and large toy mice. (It will be impressive for the kids to see every detail of the Cinderella theme developed.) Hang a sign near the front door that says "Welcome to Cinderella Birthday Party!"

Use pink or silver tulle to decorate the entrance inside the house. (Swag it all around the entrance from top to bottom and tie back to the sides with a ribbon.) Have wide purple satin fabric running from each corner of the party room and meeting in the middle.

Cover the ceiling with glow-in-the-dark stars. You can make your own shiny silver stars by tracing a star-shaped cookie cutter onto a cardboard, then cutting and wrapping them in aluminum foil. Scatter silver confetti on the floor. Hang paper streamers and balloons.

Make a throne out of existing wooden chair by nailing a wooden board to the back of the chair (to make it look higher). Drape it with blue or purple satin, and decorate the chair with "jewels" (sequins, glitter, etc.) to make it look "royal." Put the throne near the table for the "King" or "Queen" to sit on.

Tape Cinderella posters to the walls, and spread theme items around the room. Have all your clocks moved to 12 o'clock. Place a nice-looking slipper (glass or real shoe) where everyone can see it. Dim lights during the party, and light some candles. Spread out vases with flowers. Fill mini plastic slippers with candy, and put them on furniture.

Cover your Cinderella birthday party table with a theme cloth. Sprinkle silver confetti on the table. Have tiaras and crowns (plastic or paper) at each setting. Place Cinderella Mylar balloon for a centerpiece. Hang a personalized "Happy Birthday" banner nearby.

    Guest Arrival and Introductory Activities

*Castle Arrival: As each Cinderella birthday party guest walks down the "red carpet", get one of the helpers to announce them as "Princess/Prince (guest's name)." Provide the girls with tiaras and the boys with knights' armor.

*Guess How Many: Fill a jar with pink jellybeans and have the kids guess how many are in the jar as they arrive. Give the jellybeans to a child who can guess closest to the amount, and give the leftovers to other players.

*Beaded Mirror Activity: You can get a Beaded Mirror craft kit from a party store. Have the guests decorate their mirrors that they can take home at the end of the party.

*Cinderella Story: If you expect a younger crowd, sit them in a circle and have one of the helpers read parts from Cinderella book.

    Favors

For your Cinderella party favors, have such items as rings, bracelets, lip gloss, Cinderella sticker sheets, magic wands, tiaras, removable tattoos, and so on.

    Cinderella Birthday Party Games

For an extra special celebration, I recommend that you develop a story plot. The first six games in this section (including "Find the Lost Slipper" game) follow a sequence of events. I have included several others so you don't run out of games. Have fun!

*Cinderella Housecleaning: When all the guests have arrived, announce that each girl is now Cinderella. Give each one a feather duster or a rag to clean up a room in your house. (The kids are going to love this!)

*The Duke Arrives: While the Cinderellas are dusting, the Duke (dad dressed in a tuxedo or a suit) should knock at the door and drop off the royal invitations (in gold ink with a crown drawn on top) to the Prince's Ball.

Gather your little Cinderellas and read those invitations to them.

*Dressing for the Ball: Let the girls create their gowns. You can make simple, sandwich-board-style dresses, and cut them beforehand from extra-wide sheets of crepe paper bought from art supply store. Girls can glue faux jewels, sequins, and beads on their dresses. Tie a long piece of lace around their waists.

*Ballroom Dancing: When all the Cinderella birthday party guests are dressed for the ball, play the "Nutcracker" music, and let them dance around the party room. From time to time, turn off the music and present a prize to "the best twirler" or "the most elegant couple." (Prepare awards ahead of time, and present a small prize for each award.)

*The Strike of Midnight: During the last dance, the clock strikes twelve (an alarm clock that chimes). Instruct the girls to run, leaving one "slipper" behind. Back in their Cinderella's room, they strip down to their "rags."

*Find the Lost Slipper: Meanwhile, the Duke should gather up the lost slippers and fill them with party favors, such as candy or penny jewelry. Then set out a trail of silver confetti leading to the slippers. The girls should follow the confetti trail to their surprises.

*Cinderella's Message Mix-Up: Have your Cinderella birthday party guests sit in a circle. The birthday girl comes up with a message that she thinks the Fairy Godmother would want to tell Cinderella (e.g., Be sure to be home by midnight or your carriage will turn into a pumpkin.) She then whispers the message to the person on her left.

The message travels all the way around the circle. The person on the birthday girl's right tells the message out loud and then the birthday girl tells the original message. Watch the girls giggle as they compare both messages. You can start another round by letting another person be the "Godmother."

*Little Pad Moat Crossing: Cut out four large lily pads from green cardboard (about 12"x15" in size). Divide Cinderella birthday party guests into two equal lines, and give the first person in each line two lily pads. The lily pads become the only thing they can step on as they travel across the moat - from the front of the line, around a chair and back to the line again.

The game begins when children place one lily pad on the ground and step on it. Then they do the same with the other lily pad. Next, they pick up the first lily pad and place it on the ground in front of the other. When they cross the moat they hand the two lily pads to the next player in line. The team to make it all the way across the moat first is the winner.

To make the game longer and more challenging, give each of the two teams a princess outfit. In addition to walking on lily pads, each child must first put on the princess outfit.

*Who am I?: Write names of the characters on strips of masking tape before the Cinderella birthday party, so each child will have one. (The names can include Cinderella, Prince, Duke, Stepmother, Step Sisters, King, Queen, Godmother, etc.)

At game time, attach a name to each kid's back, bud don't let them see it. Children must figure out what character is on their back by asking everyone else questions that can be answered "yes" or "no." (For example, "Am I a girl?" "Do I have magical powers?", etc.)

*Pass the Wand: Have the children sit down in a circle, and hand out a "wand" to one of them. Ask a helper to play music, stopping it every 10 to 20 seconds. As the Cinderella birthday party music plays, kids start passing the wand as quickly as possible.

When the music stops, the person holding the wand goes out of the game. Let that child keep the wand. Hand out another wand and turn the music back on to continue the game. The game ends when everyone is out, and everyone has a wand.

*Edible Jewelry: Girls will love creating sweet jewelry. For edible "beads," purchase a variety of doughnut-shaped cereal, small candies, or tiny cookies. (Life Savers® candies are kid-favorites - buy as many varieties as you can find, so there's lots of colors and flavors to choose from.)

For stringing material, use spaghetti licorice rope so necklaces and bracelets are completely edible. (Use yard or elastic cord as alternatives.) Write guests' names on slips of paper and place them in a hat. Once kids have drawn names, each gets to design a piece of jewelry for their chosen person.

    Food and Drink

    Cinderella Birthday Cake:

*Cinderella Cake: Purchase Cinderella cake pan from a party store. Then bake and decorate the cake according to instructions.

Here you'll find awesome princess castle cake ideas.

    Cinderella Birthday Party Food Ideas:

*Magic Wands: For this Cinderella birthday party recipe, you'll need 1 cup of Pillsbury Creamy Supreme® chocolate fudge frosting, 1 cup of chocolate candy sprinkles, 1/4 cup of Pillsbury Creamy Supreme® Vanilla Frosting and 16 pretzel rods.

Line cookie sheet with foil. Place chocolate frosting in microwave-safe 13x9" (3-quart) glass baking dish. Microwave on High for 10-15 seconds (or until melted) stirring until smooth. Place candy sprinkles in shallow dish.

Dip each pretzel rod in melted frosting, turning to coat completely. Roll in candy sprinkles, and place on foil-lined cookie sheet. Refrigerate for 30 minutes or until frosting is set.

Place sheet of foil on work surface. Put vanilla frosting in small microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on High for 10-15 seconds or until softened. Dip 1 inch of each coated pretzel in vanilla frosting. Place wands on foil. Let stand for about 4 hours or until frosting is set.

*Crunchy Vegetable Dip Coach: Scrape out the insides of a small pumpkin. (If pumpkins aren't in season, use a large butternut squash instead.) Wash the pumpkin and then turn it upside down to dry. Fill it with your favorite dip and set it on a bed of lettuce that is covered with sliced veggies. Place three small rubber mice near the pumpkin (to serve as the former groomsmen who were turned back into mice at the stroke of midnight).

*Royal Pizza: Serve your child's favorite pizza (or have a variety of flavors).

*Princess Parfait: Put a layer of yogurt, granola, and fresh fruit into plastic cups. Repeat layers once or twice in each cup. Top with whipping cream.
