Helpful Tips & Craft Ideas for Kids Parties

I created this page to provide you information for planning your crafts. Here you will find general tips and ideas to keep your projects running as smoothly as possible.

But even if the craft turns out lopsided or the tail is in the wrong place, the kids will be still pleased with their creations.

  • Choose age-appropriate projects. Try to pick crafts your guests have the motor skills for - and set aside enough time to complete the task. For preschool ages, choose a project with very few steps - that way younger kids don't lose interest in the activity. Older kids should be able to handle larger-scale projects.

Keep in mind that some of the crafts will take quite awhile to complete. In that case you might want to decide to make one specific craft the focal point for the entire party.

  • To avoid disappointment, give all your crafts a test run. That way, you'll get a sense of how easy the project is to execute, how long it takes, if it's age appropriate, and if it's fun.

  • Make sure you have all the materials on hand. There's nothing worse than realizing halfway through a project that you're out of tempera paint or construction paper. Plan everything in advance!

  • Have "working gear" like old shirts or aprons for the kids to put on. It's true that some kids will wear nice clothes to your party. You wouldn't want your guests to leave your house with stains on their outfits.

  • Set ground rules. Create an environment where kids have a great time, but also they understand the limits. Just be sure you minimize disorder, not creativity.

  • Offer help, but not too much of it. To make your crafting time more efficient, you may be tempted to lay out precut pieces of fabric or construction paper for the kids to assemble. But be careful of doing too much. All that measuring, folding and shaping can be part of the fun for the children.

  • Don't rush the kids! Let's them enjoy the activity and proceed at their own pace. Make sure they take great memories from the event.

  • Before the party, make arrangements with your child and other family members to help you clean up after the guests are gone.
