Invitations
Have some fun with your dance party decorations. Get clear CDs, and write your party information on them with black marker. You can even record a special message on the CDs. Your guests have to play the record to hear the message.
For a different idea, your invitations can resemble VIP club passes. Do a Google Image search to see what they look like, and create something similar using a graphics software.
Ask your guests to wear club or disco party attire. Remember to mail your invites at least 3 weeks in advance.
Decorations
Black, white and silver are great colors for dance party decorations. Use streamers and balloons in those colors all over your party scene. Hang crystal Christmas lights on trees in your backyard. Scatter around glow-in-the-dark items.
Move out furniture from the party area, so guests have enough room to dance. Hang disco and club theme posters on the walls. Attach a disco ball to the ceiling. Rent and use fog machine during the party.
Hang clear CDs from the ceiling on fishing lines. Fill space with streamers and helium balloons. Cover party table with a funky tablecloth.
Guest Arrival
Have a bouncer at the front door checking to see if the people arriving are on the list. Have him ask "You on the list?"
For extra fun, he can give hard time to some (those who you're sure will handle some teasing) people, not letting them in right away.
The bouncer has to put a glow stamp on each person's hand, or put a paper wrist band as they do in the clubs.
Favors
For dance party favors hand out music CDs, funky necklaces and bracelets, sunglasses, disco ball keychains, and so on.
Dance Party Songs
You can play a variety of music at your party, from electronic to pop music, but here is a list of songs that will definitely create the right atmosphere:
*"Staying Alive" by Bee Gees *"Get the Party Started" by Pink *"Y.M.C.A" by Village People *"Don't Stop The Music" by Rihanna *"Billie Jean" by Michael Jackson *"Just Dance" by Lady Gaga *"Vogue" by Madonna *"Crank That" by Soulja Boy
Dance Party Activities
At your disco party, most people will want to dance all night long. But I recommend preparing a few extra activities for those who are a little shy, or those who don't have the energy to dance any longer. Here are a few suggestions:
*Dance-Off: To get the guests into the groove, have a short dance competition. Keep it light and friendly, so no one feels bad about leaving the contest.
*Truth or Dare: Have this classic game in your party arsenal as a backup plan.
*Karaoke: Rent a karaoke machine, and set up in a different room for those who prefer singing to dancing. (This works well if you have a very large group.)
*Charades: Here is another "alternate" activity for the party. Divide players into 2 teams, and have the guessing fun begin.
*Just Dance: This should be the primary activity for your party, and everything else should work around it.
Play electronic and pop music with some R&B, Hip Hop, and salsa. If your budge permits, consider hiring a professional DJ.
*Twister
*Photo Shoot: Take a group picture of everyone in attendance. If you have a smaller group, then have your picture taken individually with each guest.
Food and Drink
Serve food at intervals, putting it away and bringing it back again. That way, the guests who are more shy won't stand at the party table all night long instead of dancing.
Dance Birthday Party Cake:
*Musical Note Cake: Bake a sheet cake. Let it cool, and then frost it in bright color. Next, use cake decorating tip to draw musical notes all around the cake. Finally, add some sprinkles. Dance Party Food Ideas:
*Pizza *Hot dogs *Chips & salsa *Veggies with dip *Mini sandwiches *Tuna salad *Smores *Breadsticks Dance Party Drink Ideas:
Serve safe non-alcoholic cocktails at your party.
*Rebecca cocktail: Mix pineapple juice, cranberry juice, and soda water in equal proportions.
*Roy Rogers: cola and grenadine syrup, with a maraschino cherry on top.
*Fruit punch
