Diego Birthday Party Ideas

Diego and Dora are favorite characters for many preschoolers.

Why not have a Diego birthday party for your child, and invite his or her friends to celebrate! Here you'll find everything you need to know to throw a great party. Let's start with...

Resources:

  • Diego Party Supplies

  • Diego Birthday Party Invitations

Use colorful card stock to make invitations. Print and glue a picture of Diego and Baby Jaguar on the front of the cards. Write "It's a Go Diego Go Party - And You're Invited!"

Help your child put animal stickers all around the invitations. Try dollar store -- the more animal stickers you can find, the better your invites will look!

Write party details and request an RSVP from guests' parents.

You can print and attach Diego theme coloring pages to the invitations, so the little guests can color when they receive them in the mail.

    Diego Birthday Party Decorations

Orange, blue, green and brown colors fit the theme nicely. Scatter balloons and paper streamers around your house and yard. My suggestion is to decorate in a way that your yard represents a rainforest and your house -- the Animal Rescue Center.

Create "vines" by twisting green and brown streamers. Cut and spread out "paw prints" of various wild animals all around the yard. You can get inexpensive animal standees from a party store, and place them on the ground outside the house.

Inside, hang several animal pictures on the wall. Or, you can use Diego and Friends theme posters instead. Place several animal plush toys around the scene. Hang a "Happy Birthday!" banner in the area.

Cover the party table with an orange cloth. You can make your own Diego centerpiece and put it in the middle of the table. Alternatively, if you have it, you can put a small messenger bag or any other theme item. Younger kids would love it if you laminate and place pictures of Go Diego Go characters at each setting.

    Guest Arrival and Introductory Activities

*Animal Faces: You can get a face panting kit, and turn young children into animals as they arrive.

*Color Diego: As a variation, you can print theme coloring pages from Nick Jr. website. Invite the kids who arrive early to color Diego coloring pages. This simple activity will get the kids into the party mood, and occupy them while you're making final preparations.

*Wild Animal Mural: Before the party, tape butcher paper on the wall. Provide paints, crayons, colored pencils, and get the kids to paint their favorite rainforest animals.

    Favors

Go Diego Go party favors may include inexpensive animal toy sets, binoculars, compasses, stickers, activity books, bubble-blowing containers, jungle animal bean bags, and so on.

    Go Diego Go Party Games

*Bug Hunt: Before the party, hide some plastic insects around the house. After every guest has arrived, get them to find as many bugs as they can. Help out anyone who's struggling to find bugs.

*Dora, Dora, Diego: Play theme version of "Duck, Duck, Goose" game.

*Go Diego Go Jigsaw Puzzle: To unwind a little after a fast-paced activity, get the kids to put together a jigsaw puzzle.

*Red-Eyed Tree Frogs: Invite Diego birthday party guests to hop around and sing "Five Little Speckled Frogs", but instead of "speckled frogs" get them to sing about "red-eyed tree frogs" from the show.

*Feed Tuga the Turtle: Cut out a picture of Tuga and glue it on the side of a low box. At game time, provide bean bags and get the kids to throw them into the box from a distance.

*The Bobo Brothers Monkey Contest: Here is a great opportunity for the children to demonstrate their monkey sounds.

One at a time, have them do a monkey call. Have adult judges pick winners for the scariest, silliest, most funny, the wildest, etc. monkey sound! (Select enough categories, so each child wins once!) Hand out prize ribbons at the end of the competition!

*Musical Jungle Animal: Have the kids sit in a circle. Play a theme tune in the background. Hand an animal plush toy to one of the kids, and get her to pass it around while the music is playing.

When the music stops, the person holding the toy goes out of the circle and receives a prize!

*Rainforest Race: Create an obstacle course in the backyard, and invite the party guests to complete it one at a time. They can hop like bunnies, gallop like horses, crab-walk like crabs, and so on.

Or, if children are slightly older, you can create 2 identical courses, split the group into 2 teams, and have a relay race.

*Watch the Show: At the end of the Diego birthday party, allow the children to watch an episode from the show.

    Food and Drink

    Go Diego Go Birthday Cake:

*Diego Cake: Bake a regular sheet cake. Print Diego picture off the internet (choose the image size so it roughly fits the cake.) Transfer the image onto the cake. Outline the drawing with appropriate colored icing. Then put your Diego cake into a freezer and allow it to set.

    Diego Birthday Party Food Ideas:

    *Diego's Cheese Enchiladas
    *Alicia's Burritos
*Tortilla Chips with Guacamole (or Salsa)
*Baby Jaguar's Sandwiches (make miniature sandwiches)
    *Ice Cream
    *Popcorn
    *Tropical-flavored Juice
