First Birthday Songs

This page provides some of the best first birthday songs that you can have everyone sing at your party. Have the birthday child on your lap, and as you sing, do the actions outlined below. A great way to get your baby involved into the celebration!

*Happy Birthday to You: Take time to teach the traditional birthday song to your little one in advance in anticipation of that imminent, very special event - the first birthday! At the party, invite everyone to sing the song and have the birthday child singing along.

Remember, you can add hand movements as well as sounds of any other barnyard animals such as:

  • A Duck - quack, quack (flap arms).
  • A Cow - moo, moo (milk cow).
  • A Turkey - gobble, gobble (dip head).
  • A Pig - oink, oink (push up tip of nose).
  • A Donkey - ee-aww (flap hands near ears).

    *You Are My Sunshine:

    You make me happy when skies are gray.
    You'll never know, dear, how much I love you,
    Please don't take my sunshine away.

    *Dance Little Baby:

    Dance, little baby,
    Dance up high.
    Never mind baby,

    Lullabies for Your Baby

    At the end of the party, you can put your baby to sleep with one of the following lullabies.

    *Rock-a-Bye, Baby:

    On the treetop

    The cradle will rock.
    When the bow breaks,
    The cradle will fall,
    And down will come baby,
    Cradle and all.
