Cool Frog Birthday Party

What a great idea it is to throw a frog birthday party! Have the kids hop for joy at your event!

Resources:

  • Free Printable Invitations

  • Invitations

You can make frog birthday invitations yourself. Draw and cut out a frog out of green cardstock and make a slit where the frog's mouth is. Make a long frog's tongue out of paper.

    Frog Birthday Party

Hang a part of the tongue from the mouth. Attach a fly-shape piece of paper (with written "Pull!") to the edge of the mouth. Design it so when the guests pull on the fly - the rest of the tongue comes out with your frog birthday party information written on it.

The wording of your frog party invitations can say "Jump, Jump, Jump is the name of the game! What you think about frogs will never be the same.

Jumpin' and Hoppin' - it's a view to be seen. Everyone here will be wearing green. So hop on to (your child's name) Birthday Party! The fun begins at (time), so don't be tardy!"

Lastly, you can have simple design for the frog birthday party invitations. Have blank green or white invitation cards. Draw some frogs, lilies, flies on the cards. (Or decorate them with stickers.) Then write your party details inside the cards.

    Decorations

The best color for frog party decorations is green. Cut out lily pads and place them along the driveway to greet your frog birthday party guests.

Have lots of green paper streamers hanging around to create rainforest effect. Place frog theme posters on the wall.

Use plants, artificial trees, grape vines - the greener the better. Spread out any theme-related toys around your party area. Cut out fly-shapes from construction paper and hang them from the ceiling.

Cover your frog birthday party table with theme tablecloth. Spread out plastic frogs around the table. Hang personalized birthday banner in the area. Tie helium or Mylar frog balloons around the backs of the chairs.

    Guest Arrival and Introductory Activities

*Guess How Many: Put green frog gummies (or M&M candies) into a clear bowl (counting how many you have). As your frog birthday party guests arrive, get them to guess how many candies are inside. The person with the closest guess wins a small prize.

*Frog Coloring Pages: Lay out activity books on the table. Give the kids pencils and crayons. Get them to color their frogs while they are waiting for others to arrive.

*Frog Craft Activity: You can get Croaking Frog Activity Kit from a party store. Help your frog birthday party guests design their croaking frogs! At the end of the party, they can take them home as favors.

    Favors

For your frog party favors, give out plastic frogs, insect sticker sheets, frog bean bags, magnets, etc.

    Frog Birthday Party Games

*Stick the Fly on the Frog's Tongue: Before the party, draw a large frog on a poster board. Then add a long red tongue with an 'X' marked on the tip. Next, use construction paper to draw and cut out enough fly shapes for every frog birthday party guest.

At game time, blindfold the kids one by one. Then spin them around, and get them to stick their flies close to 'X'. Let the kids try several times so they have more chances for success!

*Lilly Pad Walk Relay: Cut out four large lily pads from green cardboard about 12x15 inches in size. Divide children into two equal teams. Ask each team to line up behind a starting line.

Give the first person on each team two lily pads. Lily pads are the only thing they can step on as they travel from the front of the line, around a chair and back to the line again.

On the command "Go", children place one lily pad on the ground and step on it. Then they place the other lily pad on the ground in front and step on it. They then pick up the first lily pad and place it on the ground in front of the other.

When they cross the moat they hand the two lily pads to the next person in line. The team to make it all the way across the moat first wins.

*Frog, Frog, Tadpole: Play frog birthday party version of Duck, Duck, Goose game. Have the kids sit in a circle. Get one player to walk around the circle tapping kids and saying "Frog."

As she taps someone and says "Tadpole" - that person must get up and chase her around the circle and tag her before she occupies that player's spot.

*Hop Frog: For a younger group of kids, get them to hop like frogs around the circle singing "Five Little Speckled Frogs" song. For an older group, the kids can take one big hop - measure who can hop the farthest.

*Frog Hunt: Hide some plastic frogs around your frog birthday party area. Get the kids to find as many as they can. (Make sure you explain the boundaries for the hunt - so the kids don't wonder around the house.) At the end of the hunt, give children found frogs to take home.

*Frog Bowling: Put frog pictures on 1-gallon water or milk jugs. Let the kids use a ball or water balloons to knock them over.

*Leap Frog: Here is a great outside game that will be a hit at your frog birthday party.

Get the kids form a line sitting in a "frog position." First person at the end of the line starts leaping over the next frog by placing their hands on the back of the frog, jumping in the air and sliding their legs around the body of the frog he is leaping over. Then the child jumps over all the players in line in the same fashion.

Continue the process until everyone jumps thorough the line several times. Try mixing the order of players.

*Croaking Contest: Get the kids to croak and make noises the frogs would make. Award prizes for the most realistic, funniest, silliest, loudest, etc.

*Frog Toss: Lay out a blue cloth on the table. Place lily pads cut out from construction paper on top of the cloth. Get children to toss their plastic frogs from a distance trying to land them on lily pads.

    Food and Drink

    Frog Birthday Cake:

*Frog Cake: Bake one 9" round cake, one 8" square cake and 2 cupcakes.

Cut 2 L-shapes from the square cake for "frog legs". Arrange the frog cake: place round cake for "body", cupcakes on top for "eyes". Place L-shaped legs on each side of the body.

Frost the cake green. Frost the middle of the cupcakes white, adding blue frosting for "pupils", and frost edges of cupcakes green. Add a black line under the eyes for mouth. Place a strip of fruit roll-ups for the tongue.

    Frog Birthday Party Food Ideas:

*Frog Face Pizzas: Split English muffins and top them with shredded cheese and pizza sauce. Give half of a muffin to every child. Let the kids decorate them as their own pizza.

Children may use pepperoni, mushrooms, olives and peppers to make funny frog faces. Bake on a cookie sheet at 375°F for 5-10 minutes, or until cheese melts.

*Flies on a Log: Cut celery in 5" slices and fill with almond butter. Put raisins (flies) on top and serve.

    *Fried Frog Legs (chicken nuggets)
    *Frog-Eyed Salad
*Chips with Fly Dip (black bean dip)
    *Frog Mix (trail mix)
*Vanilla Ice Cream (with green sprinkles)
    *Frog-Shaped Jell-0 Jigglers
    *Gummy Frogs

    Frog Birthday Party Drink Ideas:

*"Swampy" Drink: Mix 7-UP and lime sherbet. Pour the mixture into a punch bowl. Put plastic frogs inside the bowl - so they are floating atop.

    *Frog Juice (Lemonade)
