Happy Feet party theme works well kids of all ages. Use the following ideas for invitations, decorations, and activities, -- and your young guests will have a blast!

  • Happy Feet Party Invitations

Search for a good quality picture of Happy Feet characters on the internet. Print it on card stock paper (adjust the image size if necessary). Fold the paper in half to make cards, and then write party information on the blank side.

You can start off with "(Name) is having a Happy Feet Birthday Party and You're invited! We'll play some funky tunes and dance to the beat!" Then you can provide the details and put theme stickers all around the cards.

If you can't find good pictures from the movie, then you can print Antarctica related images instead. This would still fit the theme quite well.

To create whimsical invitations, you can draw large penguin foot prints on the front of the cards positioning them close together. Then draw smaller foot prints all over the invitations, as if the penguin was running around.

    Happy Feet Party Decorations

Use blue and white balloons/streamers abundantly around your house and yard. Put up some theme posters on or near your fence. Cut and spread out penguin "foot prints" leading to your front door. Play music from Happy Feet soundtrack.

Tie balloons to a mailbox. Post a sign that says "Welcome to Antarctica."

    Happy Feet

Your decorations inside the house should convey the bitter coldness of the surroundings.

Put up posters of Antarctica, icebergs, snow blizzards, etc. Draw and cut out snowflakes and hang them from the ceiling. Pick a corner and put up some icicle shaped paper.

For younger kids, it would be fun if you can cover the floor with white (or blue) sheets (for ice). Spread out penguin, seal, or any other theme plush toys that you might have.

Cover the table with a blue cloth. Place a plush penguin toy in the middle of the table for a centerpiece. Hang a "Happy Birthday" banner in the area.

    Guest Arrival and Introductory Activities

*Penguin Transformations: As your Happy Feet party guests arrive, turn them into penguins. For younger kids, put theme removable tattoos on shoulders or put some paint on their noses and cheeks. Give out paper penguin masks to the older kids. (You can find the masks at most party supply stores.)

*Antarctic Mural: Hang large pieces of butcher type paper next to each other on the wall. Offer paints and other accessories. When they arrive, get the children to paint a group mural of Antarctic surroundings and Happy Feet characters.

    Favors

Fill favor bags with play dough, Happy Feet stickers, plush animals, penguin masks, blow outs, glowing necklaces or bracelets, and so on.

    Happy Feet Party Games

*Alien Abduction: In the movie, Mumble asks skua gull about yellow bird ring on his leg. And the bird lunches into a story about him being abducted by aliens...

Before the game, put several plastic animals on the table. Invite the kids to take a close look at and remember the items on the table. Then choose one player to close her eyes and turn around. Pick another child to quietly snatch one of the items off the table.

The first player opens her eyes -- she gets 3 attempts to guess which item was taken off the table and who snatched it.

In the next round, put the item back and choose another player to guess. Keep playing until you feel it's time to move to another game.

*Escape from the Leopard Seal: Play this game in a spacious area. Draw two lines on the ground some distance apart. The area behind the lines is solid ice and in between -- the ocean.

Choose one player to be the Leopard Seal. He walks ("swims") around the two lines. Get the rest of the group to stand behind one of the lines. When the Leopard Seal yells "Cross!", the kids must run to the other side without being tagged by the Leopard Seal.

Continue the game with children running back and forth, whoever gets tagged goes out. The last person to get tagged becomes the Leopard Seal in the next round.

*Don't Drop the Egg: Play a theme version of Hot Potato game. Have the kids sit in a circle. Get them to pass a large plastic egg. If the person drops the egg, he or she goes out of the game but receives a prize.

*Penguin Fishing: This game would work great for younger kids.

Stretch a rope and tie it high to the backs of two chairs. Spread a white sheet over the rope to create a screen. (The screen represents an "iceberg.") Create a fishing pole out of a dowel, string, and paper clip.

Have an adult helper hiding behind the screen. When the kids toss their fishing lines over, he or she can attach prizes or favor boxes. When the children feel a tug, they pull in their catch.

*Lovelace Says: Play a Happy Feet version of Simon Says game.
*Penguin Bowling: For this activity, decorate plastic bottles to look like penguins by painting the bottles and gluing on wings made from construction paper. (You can also draw eyes and beaks.)

Set the bottles in pyramid shape and get the kids to knock them off with a rubber ball from a distance. You can keep score, if you wish, and have a fun bowling competition.

*Song and Dance Contest: Invite the kids for a theme contest. Have them sing and tap their feet as Mumble would. Award prizes for the funniest, wildest, craziest, most unique, etc. dance.

*Memphis & Norma Jean Relay: Divide the kids into 2 teams and get them to race running with a penguin plush toy or a plastic egg between their legs. This is how parents of Happy Feet characters moved with their baby penguins.

Participants pass the toy to the next players in line after they finish their relay leg. The team to cross the finish line first -- wins!

*Pinata Activity: Get a theme pinata. Fill it with candy and other prizes, and get the kids to swing at it with a bat one at a time, starting with the birthday child.

    Food and Drink

    Happy Feet Birthday Party Cake:

*Penguin Cake: Bake a rectangular cake. Search Google Images for "penguin drawing" -- this will give you several options for images to use for your cake. Print the image you like the most.

Use the picture as your guide to outline and trim the cake to make it in a shape of a penguin. Frost the entire cake with a thin layer of frosting, choosing colors based on the printed picture.

If you're short on time, you can get Happy Feet cake toppers from a party store, and use them to decorate your cake.

    Happy Feet Party Food Ideas:

*Fish-wiches: prepare and cut sandwiches using fish-shaped cookie cutters.

*Mumble Mix: set bowls filled with pretzels, nuts, raisins, and other dried fruit.

*Arctic Jigglers: Prepare blue Jell-O according to directions. Put it into a fridge to set. Next, insert one or two gummy fish inside and chill awhile longer. Top with shredded coconut for snow. Kids will love this dessert!

    *Ramon's Tuna Salad
    *Amigo Pizza
    *Hot Dogs
    *Popcorn
    *Ice Cream

    Happy Feet Party Drink Ideas:

*Happy Shakes: Combine milk, Oreo cookies and ice cream in a blender, and mix well. For extra thickness, add more ice cream.

    *Lemonade
    *Root Beer
