Hello Kitty Birthday Party Ideas

Invite little kittens to Hello Kitty birthday party to celebrate your child's birthday.

This page will guide you through planning your decorations, invitations, games, and favors.

Resources:

  • Party Supplies
  • Free Printable Invitations

  • Invitations

You can purchase Hello Kitty birthday invitations or make them yourself.

To make one yourself, print Hello Kitty images on pink invitation cards. Then take a picture of the birthday child, scan it, and "paste" it near the image of Hello Kitty.

Decorate the invitation cards with theme stickers, and write your Hello Kitty birthday party details on the inside. Put invitations in envelopes with a sprinkle of glitter for a special touch.

As a variation, cut 8x10 postcards out of colorful (preferably pink) cardstock paper. Fold postcards in half. Glue a photo of your child (with her Hello Kitty toy, if she has one) on the front. Write "It's A..." above the picture and "Hello Kitty Party" below with a glitter glue. Include your Hello Kitty birthday party information.

    Decorations

Keep your Hello Kitty party decorations light and elegant! Best colors to use are silver, purple and pink.

Put laminated images of Hello Kitty on the fence. Hang pink and silver helium balloons in bunches outside the house. Post a sign that says "Welcome to Hello Kitty Birthday Party!"

Hang Hello Kitty posters on the walls. Decorate your party room ceiling and walls with pastel-colored paper streamers. Have more colorful balloons spread out inside the house. Place some Hello Kitty dolls and theme toys around the area.

Hang a personalized "Happy Birthday" banner in middle of the party room. Spread out theme activity books around to occupy younger guests. Fill empty room space with flower garlands and other similar decorations.

Cover your Hello Kitty birthday party table with a theme cloth. Laminate character images, and use them for placemats at each setting. Place Hello Kitty Mylar balloon for a centerpiece. Tie pretty helium balloons to the backs of the chairs.

    Guest Arrival and Introductory Activities

*Hello Kitty Coloring Pages: Purchase some Hello Kitty activity books or print some theme coloring pages off the internet. As kids arrive, provide them with crayons and markers, and get them to color the pages.

*Paw Print Socks: For each child, you'll need a pair of white cottons socks, two cardboard strips (to fit inside each sock), scrap paper, a pencil, and fabric markers/paint. Practice sketching different paw prints before Hello Kitty birthday party, so you're better prepared to help your guests.

Display your sketches (even if they are not perfect) to inspire young artists. Demonstrate how to sketch a sock over a cardboard strip. Use pencil to outline a paw print on your guests' socks. Let the children fill the outline, using fabric markers or paint. Encourage the kids to be creative and have fun - both socks don't have to match!

*Groovy Bracelets: You can get bracelets for every guest from a party store along with decorative flowers, letters and stickers. Invite the kids to decorate their bracelets with the materials provided while they are waiting for others to arrive.

    Favors

Hand out such Hello Kitty party favors as heart-shaped sunglasses, lipsticks, hair clips, lip gloss, Hello Kitty notepads, blowouts and sticker sheets.

    Hello Kitty Birthday Party Games

*Cute Kitty Decorations: Provide Hello Kitty birthday party guests with kitten ears (available at party stores), fabric or felt, sequins, faux fur, etc. Have the children decorate their kitten ears and tails. Next, attach tails to their clothing with safety pins. Add whiskers to cheeks and a dot to noses with face paint or an eyeliner pencil.

*Pin the Bow on Hello Kitty: Draw a simple Hello Kitty picture on a poster board (or get Hello Kitty poster). Cut bow shapes out of construction paper. (You should have one shape for each guest.)

Mount the drawing on the wall. Blindfold the kids one by one, spin them around, and get them to pin their bows on Hello Kitty where they belong.

*Find Hello Kitty: Select the birthday child to be Hello Kitty. (If you wish, allow the birthday child to choose someone to be Mimi, and they can hide together.) Get the kids to count slowly to 50 while Hello Kitty and Mimi hide somewhere near the party room. When the guests have counted to 50, release them to go look for Hello Kitty and Mimi.

As each child finds the "twins," tell them to hide next to them. One by one, the kids will disappear from play area. The last child to discover the twins in their hiding place gets to be Hello Kitty in the next game. (Little partygoers will have a hard time containing their giggles when they are all packed into one hiding place like sardines!)

*Toss the Yarn: Here is Hello Kitty birthday party variation of "Hot Potato" game. Invite the kids to sit in a circle. Play upbeat music, and have the kids pass the yarn around the circle (or toss it from one side of the circle to another). When the music stops, whoever has the yarn at that moment - goes out of the game and receives a small prize. Keep playing until there is only one person left.

*Mouse Catch: Pick two or more players to be the cats and everyone else is a mouse. When cats hear the command "Mouse Catch", they must try to catch as many mice as they can. When mice get caught, they must go to a designated area called "mousetrap," where they must stand still with their legs spread apart.

To be rescued, one of their mice-friends has to crawl through the captured player's legs. Keep playing the game until everyone has been caught, or it's time to move to the next game.

*Hello Kitty Toss: Draw Hello Kitty on a cardboard box, or decorate the box with theme stickers. Cut out a large hole on the top of the box. Put a masking tape on the ground, and have the kids stand behind the line. Invite them to toss beanbags (or socks filled with dried beans) into the box. (Change throwing distance based on guests' age.)

Hello Kitty *Kitty Says: Play traditional "Simon Says" game with Hello Kitty birthday party twist!

*Finger Painting Fun: Bring out finger paints and let the kids draw pictures of Hello Kitty and her family on large pieces of butcher paper. Be sure to lay protective covering underneath the butcher paper. While your guests are getting messy and having fun, read a Hello Kitty story to inspire them!

*Hunt for the Birthday Cake: For this Hello Kitty birthday party activity, you'll need the help of at least a few family members, friends or neighbors.

Separate your party group into teams or pairs, and give each team a set of clues and party favors to find. Hand each guest a bag to put the favors in and make sure each guest has at least one favor (so nobody feels left out). The clues and favors should lead the children to the location of the cake. Keep the cake under the adult supervision at all times!

The first team to locate the cake gets served first.

    Food and Drink

    Hello Kitty Birthday Cake:

*Hello Kitty Cake: Bake a 9" round cake. Download and print Hello Kitty face image off the internet. Cut the image shape from paper (enlarge it if you need to), and trace the shape onto the cake with a toothpick. Frost the whole Hello Kitty facial shape white.

Add black jelly beans for her eyes and yellow jelly bean for the nose. Make a flower decoration near her ear using 5 jelly beans (for pastels) and 1 cut-in-half yellow jelly bean (for flower center).

Frost with light pink icing around the face, and frost dark pink all around the edge of the cake. After finishing with frosting the cake, add whiskers with black gel frosting.

As a variation, you can bake a round cake and decorate it with Hello Kitty cake toppers (available at party stores).

This Hello Kitty cake looks very adorable.

Hello Kitty Birthday Party Food Ideas:

*Dainty Dogs: Slice hotdogs lengthwise about halfway through without cutting them apart. Cut cheese into strips. Insert cheese into a hotdog cut. Unroll refrigerated crescent rolls into individual triangles. Place hotdogs onto rolls. Roll up crescent and bake on cookie sheet at 375°F for 10-12 minutes, or until golden brown.

*Tea Sandwiches: Spread various filling on the birthday child's favorite bread. (For fillings, you can use smoked salmon, cream cheese, egg salad, sliced cucumber and dill, etc.) Cut sandwiches using flower-shaped cookie cutters.

*Grandma's Purrfect Pudding: Purchase one or several packages of instant pudding in your child's favorite flavors. Prepare pudding (following the directions) a few hours before Hello Kitty birthday party snack time, so it can properly chill. When it's time to serve, swirl 2 flavors together for a special marbled effect.

*Hello Kitty Parfait: Put a layer of yogurt, granola, and fresh fruit into plastic cups. Repeat layers once or twice in each cup. Top with whipping cream.

*Paw-Print Cookies: Roll cookie dough into balls and gently flatten to a 1/4" thick with a flat object (the bottom of a glass works well). Let children make Hello Kitty paw prints. Show them how to use their thumb for the center of the paw, and form little toe marks with the tip of their small finger. When they are finished, bake and enjoy!

*Pink Mac & Cheese: Prepare regular macaroni and cheese. Add red or pink food coloring for pink color.

*Pink Popcorn: Boil 2 cups sugar, 1 cup light corn syrup and 2/3 cup margarine together for 3 minutes. Stir in 1 tsp of baking soda and 2 packs of flavored pink (or red) powder drink mix. Pour over 6 quarts of popcorn. Bake at 225°F for 45 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes. Remove from oven and break-up immediately.

*Hello Kitty Lollipops: Have pink-colored candies and lollipops in a bowl on your Hello Kitty birthday party table.

    *Chocolate-Dipped Strawberries
    *Kit Kat® Bars
    *Mini Jell-O® Jigglers

Hello Kitty Birthday Party Drink Ideas:

*Star-Studded Soda: Freeze cranberry juice or red fruit punch in a star-shaped ice tray. Serve 2 or 3 red star ice cubes in a glass of light-colored beverage (white grape juice or lemon-lime soda). The cubes will sparkle and tumble around the glass for an added touch!

*Tea Party Punch: For this Hello Kitty birthday party drink, you'll need 2 quarts of weak tea, 1 quart of pineapple juice, 2 cups of ginger ale and 1 cup of fruit punch. Prepare tea in advance and let it chill for several hours. Add all the remaining ingredients, and chill a little longer. Add ice cubes and serve in tall glasses.

*Pink Lemonade: Prepare pink lemonade mix according to directions. Serve in pretty punch glasses. Garnish each drink with a cherry or strawberry on the rim of the glass.
