High School Musical Party Ideas
High School Musical party theme has become very popular with children and young adults.
On this page, I present ideas for a preteen party, but with minor changes they can work for teens as well. And by adding a few classic games, you can tailor the party for kids under the age of 10. Have fun!

Invitations
For High School Musical party invitations, print a group image of movie characters on the cards. Write party details with date and location inside. Finish off by adding "Get'cha Head in the Game" on the back side of the invites.
As a variation, write "The Start of Something New" on the front of white cards. Paste pictures of the main 2 characters (Troy and Gabriella) on the other side. Then write party information on the blank page.
Lastly, you can use logo and colors (red and white) of East High School. Print the crest on the front page. And on the back side of the cards, write "We're All in This Together."
Decorations
Since most action in the movie takes place at East High School, you can decorate your party area in school colors (red and white).
Create school logo with a large letter "E" and mount it near the entrance. Divide the area inside your house in 3 parts -- one for each theme: basketball, drama, and science.
For basketball theme spread out basketballs, sports cups, plaques, jerseys, cheerleader pom-poms, and so on. In the other corner have 2 drama masks, microphones, musical notes, etc. For science area, have test tubes, mathematical formulas, a laptop computer, etc.
Decorate the wall with High School Musical posters. Blow up red and white balloons, and hang them around the scene along with paper streamers.
For an extra touch, you can get East High School merchandise directly from the source. Do a Google search for "east high school salt lake city" and visit the official web page. There you can get school T-shirts in various styles.
Give them to your guests to wear during the party. This would add immensely to the overall theme atmosphere.
And the T-shirts would make nice party favors for the guests to take home!
Favors
Besides logo T-shirts, give out such High School Musical party favors as play microphones, gel pens, sticker sheets, notepads, movie posters, sunglasses, and so forth.
High School Musical Party Games
*Birthday Cheer: Before the party, write down some cheers you know or print off the internet.
When all the guests have arrived, split them into 2 teams and encourage them to come up with their best cheer to honor the birthday girl (or boy). They can create their own or use the existing cheers and change the words to fit the occasion. When the teams are ready, get them to perform their cheers in front of the group.
*Musical Dress-Up: Fill 2 large boxes with wardrobes for the musical (the bigger and the more outrageous the clothes the better). Place those boxes on the opposite sides of the party area.
In the middle of the room, put a masking tape on the ground in a shape of a large circle. Ask the participants to walk around the circle as you play music.
When you randomly stop the music, the players must rush to the boxes and put one of the wardrobe items on. Then they return to the circle, and the game continues in this manner until all the items are gone.
*Who Said It?: Before the party, write down a few lines from High School Musical movie on cards. At activity time, have the players pick a card, read the line out loud and try to guess which character said it.
Or, have "Name That Tune" game instead. Play several famous songs in a row, and get the guests to write down quietly the name of each song as well as the artist singing it.
*Limbo Limelight: Play some upbeat party music. Get 2 helpers to hold a limbo stick, as the participants try to go under it. If they bump the stick or touch the ground with anything else but their feet -- they go out of the game and cheer others on the sidelines.
Lower the stick each round. The person who stays in the game the longest -- wins!
*Wildcats Hoop Relay: Divide the group into 2 teams. Put a tape on the ground to represent the Start/Finish line.
Place a child-size basketball hoop (or 2 buckets) on opposite side of the area from the starting line. Mark "foul shooting line" (short distance away from the target) with a masking tape.
Give first players on each team a small rubber ball. On the command "Go," they race to the foul shooting line and try to hit the target with the ball. If they make it, they pick up the ball and run back to the starting line. If they miss, they have to pick the ball up and try to make the basket again.
The game continues in this manner with players giving the ball to the next competitors in line. The team to finish first -- wins!
*Troy & Gabriella's Microphone: Invite the guests to sit in a circle. Get them to pass a toy microphone while you play music. When the music stops, the person holding the mic at that moment must sing a short verse from a popular song. Keep playing until everyone had a chance to sing.
*Mrs. Darbus's Class: Invite the guests to act out a scene from any movie. Give them a few minutes to prepare. One at a time, have them do their impersonations in front of everyone else. The group must determine which character and from which movie the scene is.
*High-School Musical Time: Plug in a 'sing-along' version of the show into your DVD player. Let the kids sing along to the tunes.
Alternatively, you can borrow or rent a karaoke machine. And get the guests to do the karaoke thing, one at a time.
Food and Drink
High School Musical Birthday Cake:
*East High Cake: Bake a rectangular sheet cake. Then frost the cake in East High School colors using cake decorating accessories. Print a picture of the school logo, and use that image as a guide. High School Musical Party Food Ideas:
It would be fun if you can serve similar kind of food as they serve in school cafeterias. The trick is, make it as tasty as it can be! For example, grill some delicious burgers and vegetables on a BBQ. (Serve the food on trays.)
*Burgers 'N Fries *Grilled Vegetables *Peanut Butter & Jelly Sandwiches *Championship Pizza *Wild Cats Hot Dogs *Drama Club Popcorn *Fruit (apple, orange, banana) High School Musical Party Drink Ideas:
*Chocolate Milk *Juice
