Homemade Birthday Cake

by Kelly
(Santa Clara, CA)

Browsing through your site, I'm under impression that having a homemade birthday cake is better then a store-bought one. My son's 6th birthday is coming up soon.

But I never baked, and I don't know if I'll be able to make my own cake for his birthday. On the other hand, I want my son to feel special - "wow! my mom made a cake just for me..."

It's a dilemma. What are your recommendations?

Answer:

Hi Kelly,

Seeing a smile on your son's face could be priceless. So I recommend that you try making a small cake a week or so prior to the party. That way you'll feel comfortable, plus you'll know if this is something you'd enjoy doing or not.

This site and our sister site www.birthday-cakes-guide.com have a lot of cake recipes with pictures that you can use.

But in the end, if you feel that cake baking is just not for you, then you can ask your family members or friends to help out, or oder a cake from the bakery.

If you're not having fun, why do it, right?!;-)
