How to Make a Pinata

Before I share with you an easy way to make a pinata, take a look at some of the ready-made pinatas. But if you like creating things and want your child's birthday party to have a personal touch, then I highly recommend making your own!

You can have a "plain" pinata, or decorate it any way you want. If you're looking for the easiest method of making pinatas, then here is one for you.

Simply put a few grocery bags inside one another. (You might also consider using a colorful paper shopping bag.) Fill the pinata with candy and other goodies. Then staple or tie it securely at the top.

To Make a Traditional Pinata:

Blow up a balloon. Next, get your children to help you cut newspaper into strips. Dip the strips into the glue and paste them all over the balloon. (This is called papier mache. It takes some time for the layers to dry, so plan accordingly.) Hang the balloon from the clothes line to allow it to dry well.

When papier mache is thick enough, burst the balloon. Carefully cut a hole at the top. Next, decorate it with colorful paints and attach paper streamers at the bottom. Then fill the balloon with candies and small toys. And you're set to go!
