How to Make Pinwheels

Would you like to learn how to make pinwheels? Here I will explain simple step-by-step process of making one. This craft project will create many smiles at your party! Let's get started...

Materials Needed:

  • 4 sheets of origami paper
  • Glue (a glue stick works well)
  • Pushpin
  • Thin wooden dowel or pencil

      Making Pinwheels
    1. Place one sheet of paper on a table, with the plain side up, and position it in a diamond shape. Fold the bottom point up so it is even with the top point and make a light crease. (The less you flatten your creases and the less glue you use later on, the more freely your pinwheel will turn.) Fold the left corner across to the right corner, make a light crease and unfold.

    2. Fold one layer of the top point down to the fold and secure with a spot of glue. Take three more squares of paper and repeat steps 1 and 2: you will need 4 of these units for each pinwheel.

    3. Position one unit so the unfolded plain corner points toward you. Slip the printed point of a second unit into the first unit as shown, aligning the fold with the center crease. Secure it with a spot of glue.

    4. Tuck the printed point of a third unit into the second unit, aligning the fold with the center crease. Glue it in place.

    5. Hold the fourth unit so the unfolded plain corner points to the left and tuck the downward point into the third unit (make sure that the plain corner slides behind the first unit).

    6. Secure the last corner with a dab of glue. To complete, use a pushpin to attach the paper wheel to a wooden dowel or to the eraser of a pencil.
