John Deere Birthday Party Ideas

John Deere birthday party theme is ideal for those kids who love tractors.

Prepare for a fun "countryside ride" with the following John Deere party ideas.

Resources:

  • Party Supplies
  • Free Printable Invitations

  • Invitations

Make your John Deere party invitations in a shape of a tractor. Find a good picture of a tractor and outline (or copy) it on card paper. Let the birthday child help you color the tractor in green. Then cut out the tractor shapes, and write all your John Deere birthday party details on the backs.

As a variation, find tractor coloring page. Photocopy it enough times so you have copies for all the guests. Have your child color in the tractor. Fold the paper in half and include all the John Deere party details on the inside.

You can keep John Deere birthday invitations simple, if you choose to. Just draw a barn, tractor, farmer's house, and put animal stickers on the 5"x7" cards, and then write the party details inside.

    Decorations

Select green and yellow colors for your John Deere party decorations. Hang balloons and paper streamers in bunches around the John Deere birthday party area. Play Barnyard Songs for Kids CD or other country music in the background.

John Deere Scatter the party area with some hay and add pumpkins to look like a farm. (Try to get stacks of hay for authentic look!) Place an old farm wheel in the yard, if you can.

Insert pinwheels into the ground near the driveway. Hang wind chimes near the front door, and put up the sign "Welcome to John Deere Birthday Party!"

Put some nice farm theme posters on the walls inside the house. You can also get removable John Deere party wall decorations, and tape them on the walls. If you have any stuffed animal toys (e.g., chickens, dogs, cows, pigs, etc.), spread them around the area. Place flower pots near the windows and furniture.

Scatter tractor toys around the area. If your John Deere birthday party guests are old enough, you can have books about tractors on a coffee table with various tractor information and pictures. You can also use any John Deere official products or merchandise (like hats or t-shirts) for filling the space in the room.

Decorate you John Deere birthday party table with red-checkered table cover. Spread out plastic farm animals on the table. Place replica John Deere tractor as a table centerpiece. Tie Mylar cow balloons to the backs of the chairs.

    Guest Arrival and Introductory Activities

*Farmers for a Day: As the kids arrive, tie bandanas around their necks and give them John Deere hats. Don't forget about giving them their "livestock" (boxes of animal cookies).

*John Deere Coloring Poster: Purchase John Deere Mini Velvet Coloring Poster kit from a party store. At party time, have the kids color in the tractors with markers while waiting for others to arrive.

    Favors

For John Deere party favors, let the kids take home such items as cow bean bags, crayons, John Deere sticker sheets, notepads, blowouts, and candy machines.

    John Deere Birthday Party Games

*Tape the Wheel on the Tractor: Draw a picture of tractor on a poster board with a wheel missing. Cut wheel shapes out of construction paper (enough shapes for each child).

At game time, tape tractor's picture on the wall. Then blindfold the kids and get them to tape their wheels on the tractor where they belong.

*Fresh Taste Test: Purchase 5-10 jars of baby food in various flavors. Cover the labels with paper, and number the jars.

Give each guest a pen, paper and a spoon. Invite each John Deere party guest to taste a little from each jar. Then ask them to write their flavor guesses on pieces of paper. The person with the most correct guesses wins.

*Moo-sical Cow: Have your John Deere birthday party guests sit in a circle. Have them pass around stuffed cow toy (or other farm animal toy) while you play music in the background.

When the music stops (stop it randomly), a person holding a toy goes out of the game and receives a small prize. Continue until everyone has won a take-home prize.

*Do I Moo?: Attach an animal sticker or picture to each child's back. Get the guests to identify what kind of animal they are by asking "yes" or "no" questions. For example, "Can I fly?", "Am I pink?", etc.

Have the kids ask questions until they guess correctly. They will have a blast trying to identify who they are.

*Pig Out!: Get ready for this fun and messy John Deere birthday party game! Prepare a bowl of chocolate pudding for every child. At game time, put the bowls on the ground spreading them around on paper towels. Get the children to put their hands on the ground on both sides of their bowls.

On the word "Go!" kids start eating their pudding without using their hands. A person to finish his or her meal the fastest wins the game. Use barrettes or other hair clips for kids with long hair.

*Barnyard Surprise: Before the party, get some plastic eggs that open. Put some small animal toys, animal stickers, and other cool items inside the eggs.

On the day of the party, hide them throughout the yard or party room.

At game time, explain to the kids that there some surprises hidden around the yard. Get them to find as many eggs as they can.

*Make-Your-Own Scarecrow: Collect old clothes (hats, shirts, pants, etc.) from garage sales and thrift stores. Find a hay bail locally and get creative.

Purchase two poles per scarecrow - one pole longer than the other. Nail them to connect together forming a "T". Attach pieces of yarn to a hat for hair. Use pillow cases for body parts and t-shirts made into balls for heads.

Use safety pins to attach clothing together and form the scarecrow's body, and use rubber bands or strings to tie off head, arms, and legs. Allow kids to take their scarecrows home at the end of the John Deere birthday party.

*Hoe Down: Put on some country music and get your guests to form a square dancing line that moves from one side of the room to the other. Have the kids sing along to the music as well!

*Tractor Spotting: Take your John Deere birthday party guests on a tractor-spotting adventure. You can go to a farm or drive through a countryside. If you decide to go to a farm, ask about an opportunity for the kids to sit in a tractor, go for a hay ride, etc.

    Food and Drink

    John Deere Birthday Cake:

*John Deere Tractor Cake: Bake a regular large sheet cake. Frost the cake green for "grass." Then add barn and tractor cake toppers (available from a party store).

Use pretzel sticks to create a "corral" and sprinkle cocoa powder to make "dirt." Finish you farm scene by making rows of "plants" with little candies. Place barn animal figurines all over (pigs in the dirt, cows or chickens in the corral, etc). Use your imagination and have fun!

John Deere Birthday Party Food Ideas:

*Farm Animal Sandwiches: Make regular sandwiches. Next, cut them into various animal shapes (pig, dog, cow, duck, etc.) using animal-shape cookie cutters.

*Vegetable Garden: Serve various kinds of vegetables that can be found in the garden. For younger kids who still need soft food, serve the vegetables steamed.

Slice and dice various vegetables such as baby carrots, cherry tomatoes, snow peas, zucchinis, cucumbers, bell peppers, etc. Line up veggies in rows on a tray. Write the name of each vegetable row on small pieces of paper, and then tape the paper pieces to toothpicks.

Push toothpicks into a vegetable slice at the end of each row, so every single row is labeled. (Your tray should look like a real vegetable garden.) Invite the John Deere birthday party guests to eat their veggies by picking them out and dipping them into a container filled with dressing.

*Hoppin' Haystacks: For this John Deere birthday party recipe, you'll need 1 cup natural peanut butter, 5 oz chow mien noodles, 12 oz butterscotch chips, and 1 cup cornflakes.

Stir all the ingredients (except butterscotch chips) together in a large bowl using a wooden spoon. Melt chips in a saucepan on low heat until they melt, and then stir into bowl with the other ingredients. Create "haystacks" by spooning out the mixture onto waxed paper. Cool and serve.

*Ice Cream Piglets: Scoop a large cherry or pink ice cream ball onto a cupcake wrapper for each child, and place on a cookie sheet. Add two chocolate chips for the pig's eyes. Use a melon ball scoop to add a second ice cream ball for the nose, adding two more chocolate chips for the nostrils.

Next, push in pink jelly beans for ears and create eyebrows with decorator gel. Finally, twist licorice into spiral pig tails and insert one into the side of each piglet. Store the sheet in a freezer until serving time.

    *Corn on the Cob
    *Beans
    *Baked Potatoes
    *Meatballs with Pasta

John Deere Birthday Party Drink Ideas:

*Moo-Moo Milkshakes: You'll need 3 cups of milk, 3 cups of berries, 4 ripe bananas, 12 scoops of vanilla ice cream or frozen yogurt.

Blend milk with berries and bananas. (You might need to divide the ingredients into smaller portions to avoid overflow). Then add vanilla ice cream and blend some more.

    *Brown Cows (Chocolate Milk)
