How to Make Your
Kids' Party Crafts Interesting

Whether you're decorating a Batman mask at a Batman birthday party or painting a house at a construction party, kids' party crafts are often a show-stopping activity. They also serve a dual purpose - as a party activity and a take-home favor.

Most of the parties on this site feature at least one birthday craft. If you plan on using any of craft ideas, review the following tips first.

Plan a Birthday Party Craft as a Welcome Activity

Guests typically arrive at different times - and they may not know one another - so ease them into the party with an art project. Invite them to participate in a craft decoration activity related to the theme of your party. Or, let them craft something to wear at the party, such as hats, crowns, or masks.

Test Craft Projects before the Party

To avoid disappointment, give all your crafts a test run. That way, you'll get a sense of how easy the project is to execute, how long it takes, if it's age appropriate, and if it's fun.

Set up a Work Space

Lay out all the materials for a craft on low table with comfortable chairs. If it's a messy activity, cover the area with newspaper, or have your activity outdoors. Have a few old shirts on hand for kids to wear as cover-ups over their party clothes.

Turn Birthday Crafts into Favors

The best party crafts are keepsakes that remind the guests of the special occasion.

Kids ages seven and up enjoy using puffy paint or fabric markers to decorate T-shirts or pillowcases. Other crafting hits include making jewelry, toys, or picture frames.
