Party Supplies Free Printable Invitations
Invitations
Print your knight party invitations on parchment paper using Old English style script. Roll the invitations into scrolls, and tie them with a ribbon. Lastly, deliver the invitations to your knight birthday party guests.
The invitations can say "Hear ye! Hear ye! Noble Knights and Fair Ladies are invited for feasting and festivities to honor the __th season of his noble birth, Sir (your child's name) on (day), the (date) of (month) from (time), at Sir (name) castle at (address)."
"Ladies, wear your gowns. Knights, wear your armor. Wizard and Sorcerers, wear your cloaks. RSVP to Lady (your name) before (date)."
As a variation, make your knight birthday party invitations out of regular invitation cards. Remember to add knight clip art, stickers, and drawings.
Finally, you can a take a picture of your child in knight costume with his armor. Make copies of the picture and put them on the front of the invitations.
Decorations
Best colors for your knight birthday party decorations are blue, red, silver, yellow, purple, and green. Make various shields and banners from fabric and construction paper (or cardboard). Decorate them by painting crosses and coat of arms. Hang them from fences, trees, and decks in the backyard.
You can also make red, yellow, and purple flags out of fabric or construction paper and attach them to the top of fence posts. Make a sign that says "Welcome to (your family name) Castle!" and hang it at the front door.
Pick about five or six extra large refrigerator boxes from appliance store. Make a castle out of them designing turrets, castle hallways, dungeons, and even a drawbridge - just use your imagination! You can leave it in cardboard color, but paint windows, roofs, and drawbridge. Attach medieval theme banners and write your family name on the castle. Put the castle outside (if the weather permits) or inside the house.
Make a throne out of existing wooden chair by nailing a wooden board to the back of the chair (to make it look higher). Drape it with blue or purple satin. Attach an image of "fleur-de-lis" on the top, and decorate the chair with "jewels" (sequins, glitter, etc.) to make it look royal. Put a throne near the table for the birthday child to sit on.
Decorate your knight birthday party area with a treasure chest. If you don't have anything resembling a treasure chest, here's how to make one...Paint the wooden box inside and out with gold acrylic paint. Let it dry. Cover the top with a thin layer of crafts glue.
Then place beads and other decorations on top of the glue. Sprinkle the rest with gold glitter. Cut two pieces of gold braid trim to go around the box lid and bottom. Glue them in place. Add decorative lines on box sides with glitter paint pens. Let the glue and paint dry. Fill the box with fake jewels to look like valuable treasure.
You can create and design your family crests out of cardboard. Put them up at various places around the house. Hang knight theme posters on the walls. Bring out and spread out any other "medieval" theme toys (that your child might have) around the knight party area.
Cover your knight birthday party table with solid red or blue table cover. Decorate the table with gold goblets and knight theme dinnerware. Place a castle for a centerpiece. Hang a personalized "Happy Birthday" banner around the table area.
Guest Arrival and Introductory Activities
Greet all your knight birthday party guests as they arrive. (Use as much English accent as you can to add to the ambiance.) Provide knights with helmets and inflatable swords. Wear medieval costumes of king and queen, if you can.
For a different look, you can ask a grandfather to be Merlin to greet the kids as they walk through the front door. (He can wear wizard hat, graduation robe decorated with glow in the dark stars, and he can hold a wand in his hand). Play classical medieval music in the background.
*Knight Shields & Crests: Before the knight birthday party, make knight shields out of cardboard and wrap them in aluminum foil. Attach a blank sheet of paper to every "shield."
As the kids arrive, give each child a shield, and provide paints, markers, and other decorative items for the guests to design their shields.
*Knighting Ceremony: Invite knight birthday party guests into the "Royal Hall." Let male helper (King) lead the ceremony, knighting the boys with a sword (or crowning the girls with tiaras) as they kneel before him.
Announce each guest to others as "Knight (Name)" or "Princess (Name)." After the ceremony, introduce the court jester (dad, mom, or older sibling dressed up), who will lead the games and activities during the knight birthday party.
*Coloring Poster: You can get Lego Knight Kingdom coloring poster kit from a party store, and get the kids to decorate their posters with markers while they are waiting for others to arrive.
Favors
For your knight party favors, give out knight figurines, gold coins, dragon bean bags, knight blowouts, sticker sheets, knight shield tattoos, etc.
Knight Birthday Party Games
*Pin the Sword on the Knight: Paint a knight on a big poster board or purchase a knight theme poster. Make cardboard swords with the name of each child printed on the handle. At game time, blindfold the kids, and have them pin the sword on knight's hand. Whoever gets his or her sword the closest wins.
*Tournament Relay: Fill two baskets with items of clothes and accessories (the bigger and more outrageous the clothes the better). Divide the kids into two teams and line them up.
The first players on each team must put on all the clothes from the basket, run to the other side of the party area, around a chair, and back to the line. Then they must undress and pass the clothes to the next person in line. The game continues in this manner until everyone has had a chance to go. The team to finish first - wins!
*Fencing: You can hire an instructor from your local fencing academy to teach your knight birthday party guests some fencing moves. Then two people at a time can put on a fencing gear and spar with each other while being supervised by the instructor.
*Sword Fight: Let the kids put their helmets on and "fight" with their inflatable swords. Make a rule that doesn't allow hits above shoulder level.
*Dragon Tag: Kids form a line with their hands on the hips of the child in front of them. The kid at the front of the line is the dragon's head, and the kid at the end is the tail. The object of the game is for the "head" to catch the "tail" without breaking the line.
*Archery Shooting: You can purchase an archery toy kit from a toy store. Set the target outside and get the kids test their archery shooting skills.
*Treasure Quest: Provide each player with a treasure bag. The object of the game is to get to the treasure chest by completing challenges. Each clue will lead the knights to the next clue, and so on. To get the clues, the kids must answer a series of questions about kings, queens, kingdoms, knights and armor, or even questions about the birthday child. (Ideas here are endless, just use your imagination!)
As a variation, you can hide a series of items with a clue attached to them about the location of the next item. Kids can go on their "quest" individually, in pairs or teams.
*Fearless Knight Training Course: Line the knight birthday party guests up single file. One by one, children run through a series of obstacles, while you time them with a stopwatch. Some ideas for the course include: dodging an adult dressed as a dragon, jumping over a small pile of leaves, walking along a narrow board, running around a picnic table and lawn chairs, etc.
If playing indoors, use objects such as small table, wastebasket, stack of books, chair, pile of toys, etc. The fastest kid wins.
*Shadow Knight Dodge: Choose one or more children to be Vladek's nasty shadow knights (from Lego Knight's Kingdom). Everyone else is a hero knight. When the helper shouts "Charge!" the shadow knights try to catch the hero knights. Those caught go to a designated area called the "dungeon."
There they must stand still, with their legs wide apart, until freed by another hero knight. To be rescued, one of their teammates must crawl under their legs. The game ends when everyone has been caught or it is time to switch players.
*Knight's Kingdom Board Game: You can purchase Lego Knight's Kingdom board game and have the kids unwind with this quiet time activity at the end of the knight party.
*Slay the Dragon: Get a dragon pinata before the knight birthday party. Blindfold the kids and have them try to knock the pinata with their swords. Every kid gets three tries.
Tip: Get or purchase 2 pinatas. One can be used for this game without filling it with candy. (Guests will be "slaying" it.) The other pinata can be filled with candies and small prizes for birthday child to break.
Food and Drink Knight Birthday Cakes:
*Castle Cake: You can get an Enchanted Castle cake pan from a party store. When baked, decorate the cake with icing and various edible decorations.
*Knight Cake: Bake a regular sheet cake. Frost the cake with your child's favorite color frosting. Place knight figurines on top. Knight Birthday Party Food Ideas:
*BBQ Swords: Mix Italian dressing and minced garlic in a pan, and set aside. Cut up pineapple, onions, mushrooms, bell peppers, tomatoes, zucchini into bite-sized chunks, and spread out in pan. Marinate for about 30 minutes.
Heat up grill. Thread food onto soaked skewers, leaving about 3" space on each end. Cook on grill. (If the skewers don't cool enough for the kids to hold them, remove the food from skewers and put it on the plates.)
*Moat Boats: You'll need 1 banana per child, mini marshmallows, ice cream, chocolate chips, flag toothpicks, a baking pan and aluminum foil.
Preheat oven to 350°F. Place unpeeled banana on a square of foil and slice open lengthwise. Fill wedge with marshmallows and chips. Wrap in the foil, place in baking pan with others, and warm in the oven for about 10 minutes. Remove from foil and put on plates. Top with a scoop of ice cream. Children can eat right out of the boat (peel).
*Knight Quest Mix: Mix up raisins, pretzels, chocolate chips, cereal and nuts to create healthy snacks for the knights on their special quests.
*Castle Cones: For this knight birthday party recipe, you'll need cake mix, ice cream cones (with flat bottoms), colored frosting, and candy sprinkles.

*Goblet Sundaes: You'll need sliced fruit (e.g., kiwi, berries, bananas, peaches, etc.), whipped cream, chocolate and caramel, and maraschino cherries.
Put sliced fruit into separate goblets (available at a party store). Add a couple dollops of whipped cream to each. Drizzle with chocolate and caramel (warmed separately in a microwave). Lastly, top with maraschino cherries.

To make the knight party grog, blend 2 liters of ginger ale with 1 liters of apple juice. Serve it in mugs with 2-3 grog-cubes to keep it cool.
*Dark Knight Drink: For this knight birthday party drink you'll need white grape juice (or lemon-lime soda) and black food coloring. Pour juice or soda into cups. Invite the kids to add 2 drops of black food coloring per cup, stir and sip away!
*Merlin's Magical Punch: Mix equal amounts of apple juice, 7-up, and rainbow sherbet.
