Invitations
For Kung Fu Panda party invitations, use parchment or linen paper (available from office supply stores). Write invitation wording using liquid ink.
Start off by writing Chinese characters. Do a Google search for "warrior in Chinese" and then "panda in Chinese." Then write the characters together on one line.
Next, include the rest of your party information. Finally, roll the invites into scrolls and tie them up with satin ribbons.
Or, you can print a picture of characters from Kung Fu Panda movie on the front of white invitation cards. Write party details, and get your child to stick theme stamps or stickers all around the cards.
Decorations
When decorating your Kung Fu Panda party scene, try to use as many Chinese type items or accessories that you (or your friends) might have: pictures of Chinese temples or dragons, mahjong board game, etc.
Blow up balloons and hang paper streamers in red, teal, yellow, and black colors. Mount a sign that says "Welcome to the Valley of Peace!" Play Kung Fu Panda soundtrack (or traditional Chinese music).
Spread out plush toys of snakes, monkeys, tigers, and other animals from the show. Hang movie posters on the wall. Check your local party supply or dollar store for Chinese lanterns, and hang them from the ceiling.
Cover the table with a red or yellow cloth. Paint Chinese characters on scrolls (with liquid ink), and hang them nearby. Place a large picture (or a plush toy) of Chinese dragon in the middle of the table for a centerpiece.
Guest Arrival and Introductory Activities
Greet your young guests as they arrive, and give them Kung Fu Panda paper masks to wear during the party and take home afterward.
*Kung Fu Panda Mural: Tape sheets of butcher paper at kids' eye level on the wall before the party.
When they arrive, provide some paints and markers and invite the guests to paint their favorite character from the film.
*Watch the Movie: Have the children watch an episode from the show, as they wait for all the guests to arrive.
Favors
For your Kung Fu Panda party favors, you have a variety of items to choose from. You can give out small ninja figurines, plastic throwing stars, bandannas, chopsticks, movie posters and stickers, blowouts, masks, and so forth.
Kung Fu Panda Party Games
*Find the Dragon Scroll: Roll parchment paper into a scroll. Tie the scroll up using red satin ribbon. Hide it in the yard or inside the house.
At activity time, gather the kids and get them to find the scroll. Provide written clues and arrows for direction to help the children to find the prized possession.
*Kung Fu Warriors in Training: To achieve a status of warrior, one has to go through vigorous training.
Have the kids spread out and get them to do a quick round of physical exercises such as jumping jacks, push ups, squats, hip rotations, lunges, and so on.
*Feed Panda: Staple a large poster image of Po to a cardboard to create a standee.
Create a "base" by gluing cardboard pieces at both sides at the bottom, and tape it to the floor with a masking tape. Cut out a hole where panda's mouth is.
Invite the kids to feed Po by tossing beanbags through his mouth for points.
*"Wuxi Finger Hold" Relay: Make sure you have lots of space for this Kung Fu Panda birthday party activity. Split the kids into 2 teams, and organize a relay race.
You can have them run, hop, crab walk, run sideways, etc. Give each team a small piece of cloth material. (This becomes a "relay baton.") They have to carry it between their thumb and a little finger. If a competitor drops the cloth during the race, he has to start his leg over again.
*Master Shifu Says: Play Kung Fu Panda theme version of Simon Says game.
*Fight Tai Lung: On the morning before the party, blow up balloons. Draw leopard (Tai Lung) faces on them with a marker. Store the balloons in large garbage bags.
At game time, release the balloons and get the kids to battle with the "villain" by kicking and stomping on the balloons.
*Be at Peace: Have the kids lie down in a circle so each person's head ends up on someone else tummy (all kids must be connected). Get one person to say "Ha" as solemnly as possible, and the next player "Ha Ha", and so on around the circle.
The objective for the kids is to proceed without laughing. With one person starting to laugh, it would be hard for others to remain serious. You can choose either to have the players leave the circle once they laugh (and receive a prize), or stay for the duration of the game.
*Birthday Pinata: Purchase an inexpensive theme pinata from a party outlet. Have the kids take turns swinging at it with a bat, starting with the birthday child.
Food and Drink
Kung Fu Panda Birthday Cake:
*Kung Fu Panda Cake: Bake a rectangular cake. Frost the cake with white frosting.
Download a picture of Po off the internet. Use that picture as a guide to outline the face on the cake with a toothpick. Finally frost the cake in appropriate colors. Use candy for Po's facial features (e.g. black M&Ms for eyes). Kung Fu Panda Party Food Ideas:
*Master Monkey Meal: peel a banana and place it on a hot dog bun. Then add some peanut butter and a tiny bit of honey for a tasty meal.
*Mr. Ping's Famous Noodle Soup *Master Shifu's Seafood *Tai Lung Burgers *Master Tigress Pizza *Viper Ice Cream *Popcorn Kung Fu Panda Party Drink Ideas:
*"Furious Five" Sippers: Mix 3 cups apple and 1 cup cranberry juice. Drop several cinnamon sticks into the mixture. Bring it to boil in a saucepan. Simmer for about 5 minutes. Remove cinnamon and serve with ice cubes.
