Magic Tree House Party Ideas

Kids love adventure, and Magic Tree House party theme can provide just that. On this page you'll see how you can use this cool theme specifically for celebrating your child's birthday.

One thing I'm certain of: follow the ideas from this page and your young guests will have tons of fun!

  • Invitations

For Magic Tree House party invitations, print images of Jack and Annie on the front of white cards. Write "Go on a adventure trip with Jack, Annie and ____ (your child's name)..." Next, open the cards and write the detailed party information. Then flip the cards over, and draw a map showing how to get to your house.

For a different idea, you can make the invitations look like Magic Tree House. Use a picture of the house as a template to outline and cut house shapes out of a sturdy paper. Then, draw the window and other details, and color the house shapes in brown color.

    Decorations

When planning your Magic Tree House party decorations, I suggest that you split the party area into several parts. And then decorate each part according to the activities you're going to have. (See Games and Activities below.)

For example, you can have dinosaur posters, figurines, and plastic eggs in one area.

You can decorate the other area with pirate flags, bandannas, toy swords, etc. (see "Pirates Past Noon" game).

And for "High Tide in Hawaii" game, you can add such items as tropical pictures, a surfboard, Hawaiian leis, and so on.

Set up a tent in the backyard to represent the Magic Tree House. The kids can escape here in between the activities. Add balloons and streamers, plus some character images from the book. Put up a sign that says "Welcome to (child's name) Magic Tree House Birthday Party!" near the entrance.

Cover the party table with a blue cloth. Make a 3-D house out of brown construction paper, and place in the middle for a centerpiece. If you have any books from the series, then spread them around.

    Guest Arrival and Introductory Activities

*Picture Taking: Take a picture of every guest with the birthday child as they enter the door. The pictures will be great mementos from the party to remind the kids of the fun time they had. Send the pictures after the party along with 'thank you' notes.

*Jigsaw Puzzle: Purchase an inexpensive jigsaw puzzle. Have the kids solve the puzzle together as a team.

    Favors

Give out such cool Magic Tree House party favors as animal masks, crayons, Pop Rock candy, toy binoculars, plastic dinosaurs, Play-Doh, and so on.

    Magic Tree House Party Games

*Hour of the Olympics: Create a series of athletic events that the guests can participate in. Invite them to walk backwards around the backyard, hop on one leg 10 times, crab-walk, and so on. For older kids, you can have a relay race.

*Haunted Castle Mummy Wrap: Divide the group into pairs. Give each pair a roll of toilet paper. On the command "Go," get the kids to wrap their partners as fast as they can. The fastest team wins.

Explain to them that they must not wrap the head and the neck area. And they should wrap arms and legs separately from the torso. Have the players trade places, so everyone has a chance to participate in wrapping their friends.

*Pop the Dinosaur Egg: Before the Magic Tree House party, blow enough balloons for all the guests. Place an image or sticker of a baby dinosaur inside each balloon. Put up some music, and get the children to pop the balloons by sitting on them. When they pop their balloon, they receive a prize.

*Dark Day in the Deep Sea: Here is a great activity for a hot summer day. (If you plan to play this game, then I recommend that you ask the kids to bring towels and change of clothes.)

Choose one player to be the Octopus. Have the rest of the group form a circle around him or her. Get the players to toss a water balloon around the circle trying to avoid the Octopus. If the Octopus bats the balloon out of the air, then the person who threw it gets to be the Octopus.

*Good Morning, Gorillas: Gather the kids around. One at a time, have them demonstrate their best gorilla roar. Award prizes for the silliest, scariest, wildest, etc. roar.

Be sure to have prizes for all the competitors. Enlist siblings, relatives, and guests' parents to be the competition judges.

*Knights at Dawn: Invite the kids to put on toy helmets, a let them "fight" with inflatable swords. Tell them to avoid hits above the shoulder level, and aggressive hits in general.

*High Tide in Hawaii: Set a surfboard on a flat surface in the area with lots of open space. Have one player stand on it pretending to surf. And the rest of the players sit around the board and rock it slightly trying to knock the "surfer" off the board.
