Invitations
Create your Oscar party invitations in a shape of VIP passes. Design them out of black (or red) construction paper. Write "Night at the Oscars" on one side and your party information on the other side with white ink.
You can write "You're invited to the Academy Awards!" Then add all the details for the party: date, time, location, etc.
Next, cut a hole at the top and then thread a string through it. The guests have to wear the VIP passes on their necks to get in.
Or for a different invitation idea, you can write your party information on simple invitation cards, and attach them to an unopened bag of microwave popcorn.
Ask the guests to dress like celebrities wearing evening wear.
To prepare for the "Guess Who?" game (see Oscar Party Games section below), attach a questionnaire to each invitation. Include the following in every questionnaire: "Favorite color ______", "Favorite movie ______", "Favorite song _______", "Favorite hobby _______", and so on.
Ask the guests to fill their questionnaires without sharing information with other party guests, and return them back to you as soon as possible.
Decorations
Gold, silver, white, and black make perfect colors for Oscar party decorations. Have streamers, balloons and ribbons in those colors. Create an audio CD with recognizable movie scenes and play it throughout the party.
Get a long red material for the red carpet, and set it up on the ground leading to the front door. That way the guests can arrive as true celebrities.
String clear white Christmas lights around the party scene. Put up celebrity and movie posters. Decorate the wall with Marilyn Monroe scene setters.
Cover the table with black tablecloth. Fill black top hat with candy, and place in the middle for a centerpiece. Set vases (or glasses) with floating candles.
Cut golden star shapes out of construction paper, and write guests' names on them. Spread the shapes out on the table so the guests know where they sit. Sprinkle some shiny confetti.
Guest Arrival and Introductory Activities
Announce the guests over a microphone as they arrive on the red carpet. Tell who's wearing what type of designer. (Only praise the guests' sense of style without any negative comments.) Get "paparazzi" (siblings and parents) to take pictures of the "celebrities."
Have one or two security guards wearing tuxedos near the front door. They will check the passes to make sure all the VIP guests can get in.
Favors
DVDs, movie posters, boas, bow ties, sunglasses, picture frames make excellent Oscar theme party favors.
Oscar Party Games
*Guess Who?: To prepare for this game, send questionnaires with your invitations prior to the party (see Invitations section above.)
The idea of the game is to read information about a certain person in attendance (his or her favorite color, song, movie, hobby), and everyone else has to guess who the person is. Give points for correct answers. The player who gets the most points, wins.
*Movie Scenes: Before the party, print out scripts of short scenes from famous movies. If possible, provide some costumes and props.
Have the guests act out the scenes. Award prizes for the Best Actor/Actress, Best Supporting Role, Best Make-up, Best Costume, and so on. Make sure everyone gets at least one award.
*Truth or Dare: Add extra fun to your party with this all-time classic.
*Movie Jeopardy: Test your guests' knowledge of different films, actors and actresses.
Play short audio clips from movies, and get the guests to guess what the movie is and the actors involved in the scene.
Or, you can read lines from the movies, ask about actors involved in a certain film, and so on. Create a Jeopardy board, and have the participants compete for dollar points.
*Karaoke: Set up a karaoke machine, and have the party goers choose and sing their favorite tunes.
*Dance Time: Play some upbeat party music, and invite everyone to dance to the beats.
*Which Celebrity am I?: Here is another variation of a guessing Oscar party game.
Place pictures of actors and actresses on your guests' backs and get them to find out who they are by asking questions that can be answered "yes" or "no." For example, they can ask "Am I a man?", A woman?", "Did I win an Oscar?", "Do I star in action films?", and so on.

Oscar Birthday Cake:
*Oscar Cake: Bake a rectangular cake. Frost it in silver color. Place an Oscar figurine on top of the cake.
