Step 1: Bake two 9X13 cakes, 1/2 of a 3D sports ball cake and 1/2 of a 3D Easter Egg cake and let them cool.
Step 2: Make a batch of Rice Krispie Treats.
Step 3: Frost the two 9X13 cakes together, one on top of the other, with a layer of frosting between the two cakes as well as a thin layer on the outside of the cakes.
*TIP: The thin layer of frosting on the cakes as you assemble them helps stiffen the outside of the cakes as well as lock in any crumbs to prevent flaking of the cake or any crumbs coming off as you do the decorative frosting piping.
Step #4: Put the 1/2 of the 3D sports ball cake and the 1/2 of the 3D Easter Egg cake on top of the 9X13 cake, towards the front to form the puppy's head and body, and cover both with a thin layer of frosting. (See image below.)

Step 5: Use the Rice Krispie Treats to fill in any open areas under the 1/2 3D sports ball and 1/2 3D Easter Egg cakes to form a nice smooth body line down to the 9X13 cake.
Also, for the puppy's legs, nose, ears, and tail from the Rice Krispie Treats and put them on the cake with some frosting underneath to hold them in place. For the tail, use some toothpicks to hold it in place along the back of the cake.

Step 6: Put a thin layer of chocolate frosting over the puppy's entire body to fill in any holes in the Rice Krispie treats or between joints and to give you a brown undercoat.
Step 7: Use a Wilton tip #233 (grass/hair tip) with green frosting (just add green food coloring to white or vanilla frosting to turn it to the shade of green you want) to make the grass effect on the 9X13 cakes on top and sides (leave a gap around the puppy itself since the puppy's fur will cover this).

Step 8: Use a Wilton tip #233 (grass/hair tip) with chocolate frosting (or any color you want your puppy to be) to create the "fur" on the puppy, all over the face, body, legs, ears, and tail.

Step 9: Use Wilton tip #5 with black frosting (just add black food coloring to white or vanilla frosting to turn in black) to frost the pupils in the eyes, and the nose on the puppy.
Step 10: Use Wilton tip #5 with white frosting to frost the rest of the puppy's eyes.
Step 11: Use Wilton tip #5 with pink frosting (just add a small amount of red food coloring to white or vanilla frosting to make it the shade of pink you want) to make the puppy's tongue hanging over the side of the cake.
Step 12: Use Wilton tip #18 or #20 with white frosting to make the scallop edging along the bottom of the 9X13 cake, all the way around.
Step 13: Sit back, enjoy, and feel a sense of accomplishment on your masterpiece!
