Superman Birthday Party Ideas

Almost every boy wants to be a superhero, so throwing Superman birthday party will be a huge hit! Follow the proven ideas on this page for all your party planning!

Resources:

  • Party Supplies
  • Free Printable Invitations

  • Invitations

Make your Superman birthday party invitations out of construction paper in a shape of Superman's emblem. Draw "S", color the design accordingly, and cut diamond shapes out. Write your party information on the back sides.

As an alternative, print an image of Superman on the front of blank white invitation cards. Write Superman birthday party details, and get your child to put theme stickers all over. (You can also take a picture of your child wearing Superman costume, and print that picture on the front of the cards.)

The invitations can say: "Calling all Super Heroes! You're summoned to (your child's name) house on (date/time) for Super Cool Superman Birthday Party!" Then add the rest of your party information.

    Decorations

Choose red, blue and yellow as colors for your Superman party decorations.

Download and print images of Superman. Next, laminate and post them on the fence to mark your party spot. Place a sign that says "Entering Krypton." Play Superman theme music in the background.

Draw and cut out Superman diamond emblem shapes. Decorate them using emblem picture as a guide. Next, spread them out on the driveway leading to the front door. Post a large banner that says "Welcome to (your child's name) Superman Birthday Party!"

Superman Hang Superman posters on the walls inside the house. Fill the ceiling with colorful helium balloons. Hang balloons and paper streamers all around the party room. Cover the floor with red cape-like material. Spread out Superman memorabilia, accessories, clothes, toys, etc.

Mount signs "BAM!", "KAMBLAM!", "POW!" in the area. Enlarge Superman comic strips and hang them to fill the empty space. Spray rocks with silver and glow-in-the-dark paint, and spread them around the floor for "Kryptonite Rocks". (If finding glow-in-the-dark paint is an issue, you can get some "glowing rocks" from a party store.)

If you choose to, you can dim the lights and cover the windows with black material. Place some glow-in-the-dark stars on the ceiling. Spread out mini flash lights so the kids can find their way around the room.

Cover your Superman birthday party table with a theme cloth. Scatter some colorful confetti all over the table. Print small images of Superman, laminate them and put them for placemats. Have Superman Mylar balloon for a centerpiece. Tie helium balloons to the back of the chairs. Hang a personalized "Happy Birthday" banner nearby.

    Guest Arrival and Introductory Activities

*Coloring Pages: If you have young kids attending your Superman birthday party, then invite them to color pages from activity books with crayons and markers.

*Superman Mural: Have the kids create their own Superman theme mural. Tape a wide sheet of butcher paper on the lower portion of the wall so the kids can reach. Provide the "artists" with paints, markers, crayons, etc., and get them to paint their masterpieces. (Be sure to let the kids know that it's OK to have more than one Superman.)

*Superman Emblem Activity: You can get a Superman Emblem kit from a party store. Let the kids create their own Superman emblems.

    Favors

For Superman party favors, give out such items as glow-in-the-dark rings, crayons, glitter yo-yos, Superman masks, sticker sheets, blowouts, glow sticks, etc.

    Superman Birthday Party Games

*Pin "S" on Superman: For this Superman birthday party version of a traditional game, you'll need a poster of Superman (you can design one yourself by enlarging an image of Superman and gluing it onto white poster board). Draw and cut "S" shapes out of red poster board. (You should have enough for each guest.) Write guests' initials and put double-sided tape on each cutout.

Mount the Superman poster on the wall. One by one, blindfold the kids, spin them around, and get them to stick their emblems on Superman where they belong.

*Kryptonian Training Course: Before the party, set up various obstacles in your yard that kids have to go through: jumping over a pile of leaves, walking along a narrow board, running around a table or chairs, etc. (For the indoor course, you can set up wastebaskets, pile of books, chairs, pile of toys, pillow, etc.)

At race time, line the Superman birthday party guests up single file. One by one, have them run through a series of obstacles, while you time them with a stopwatch. The fastest kid wins the race!

*Superman Search: Superman nemesis, Lex Luthor, is seeking out Superman to destroy him. So the Superman tries not to be discovered.

Enlist one of the kids to be Luthor and blindfold him. Next, have everyone walking in a circle around Luthor until he points in someone's direction and shouts, "Superman, reveal yourself!" The person who has been pointed at must respond, in an undetectable voice, "I'm not Superman!" Luthor has three guesses to determine who that player really is.

A correct guess means the players switch places, transfer the blindfold and the play continues. An incorrect guess means everyone starts again until Luthor's right. Play until everyone has had a turn to be Luthor, or it's time for a new game.

*Lex Luthor on the Loose: Pick one player to be Superman, and one to be Luthor. The rest of the players will be citizens. When the caller announces "Get 'em", Luthor tries to catch the citizens and Superman must try to catch Luthor.

If citizens get caught, they must go to a designated area called "the hostage tank." Superman must tag Luthor to free everyone. But, if Luthor gets all citizens first, he wins. Switch players after each round, and continue playing until you feel like it's time for the next activity.

*Daily Planet Story: During this Superman birthday party game, children take turns pretending to be Clark Kent, writing a story about Superman.

Invite everyone to write a sentence on a slip of paper that could be the start of the story. Put the slips in a bowl, and ask the players to sit in a circle. Invite one child to draw a slip from the bowl and read it out loud. The next kid in the circle must continue the story by saying a sentence that's related to, but even more exaggerated than the last.

The round ends once everyone's had a turn to add a sentence. Then another slip is drawn.

*Saving Metropolis: Before the Superman birthday party, hide plenty of "villain" toys (borrow some if you have to) around the area. At game time have the players go on a "hunt." As kids find the "evil" items, then can trade them for a small prize, then race to look for more until the Metropolis has been saved.

*Best Villain Laugh: Have a contest to see who has the most wicked, scariest, evilest laugh of all villains. (Hint: it should sound something like enh-heh-heh-heh-heh-heh-heh-heh! Or, moo-hoo-woo-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!)

*Secret Identity: Before the Superman birthday party, fill a large bag or two with clothing, accessories and costume items. (The more outrageous the items are - the better!)

At game time, invite the kids to stand in a circle. Turn on some upbeat music and get the guests to pass the bag(s) around. When you stop the music, the person holding the bag must reach in, pull out an item (without looking) and put it on. Play continues until all items are gone. Take pictures of all your superheroes-in-hiding.

*Superman Skills: Before the Superman party, tape-record different sounds, such as a car turning on, a bicycle bell, teapot boiling/whistling, etc. Take pictures of everyday items, and have them greatly enlarged or reduced.

At party time, have all players sit in a circle. Explain that their super powers are about to be tested.

First, test their super hearing abilities by playing the pre-recorded sounds one at a time. Either have the children yell out their guesses to the names of the sounds, or have them write answers on pieces of paper.

Second, test their super abilities to see. Reveal the enlarged and reduced pictures of everyday items one at a time. Have everyone guess the items.

Finally, test their super tasting abilities. Blindfold one of the guests. Bring out a bowl full of items to eat. Make sure to cover the bowl with a napkin so the other kids can't see all of the food items. Take one food item out and let the blindfolded child taste that food. Keep feeding the child different food items until the child guesses correctly. Then move on to the next child.

*Watch a Show: Invite the kids to watch Superman movie at the end of your Superman birthday party. It's a perfect opportunity for the kids to unwind while they are waiting for their rides.

    Food and Drink

    Superman Birthday Cake:

*Superman Cake: Bake a 9X13" sheet cake according to package directions. Create an outline of Superman's emblem and trace it on top of the cake. Frost sections of the cake accordingly.

As an alternative, you can bake a round cake, and then place Superman cake toppers in the center.

    Superman Birthday Party Food Ideas:

*Superdillas: For this Superman party recipe, you'll need whole wheat tortillas, grated cheese, grilled or stir-fried onions and peppers. You'll also need a sample of Superman emblem, pencil, heavy paper, craft scissors, food coloring marker, kitchen scissors and a cookie sheet.

Create a template of the emblem from the heavy paper, sized smaller than a tortilla. Trace around the template onto the first tortilla, using a food coloring marker. Cut out the emblem with kitchen scissors. Layer cheese and vegetables on the second tortilla and add "S" to the top. Bake on cookie sheet in preheated oven at 300°F until cheese is melted (approximately 5-10 minutes).

*Super-Corn: You'll need at least 1 ear of corn per guest, butter, salt and pepper.

Fill a large saucepan with cold water, then toss in clean, shucked cobs. Cook until water boils and serve.

*Super-Cookie: Prepare your favorite cookie recipe and form a giant dough ball. Spray a baking sheet with vegetable oil, and place the ball on it. Shape into a large diamond-shaped Superman emblem about 1/2" thick. Bake at least 5-10 minutes longer than recipe instructs, checking periodically. Test with a toothpick to make sure the center is cooked.

When cool, carefully slide onto a large tray or foil-covered cardboard. Frost the cookie gold, then use red frosting to outline the diamond and form a large "S". If you wish, use decorator gel to write "Happy Birthday" message, too.

*Supersicles: For this Superman birthday party recipe, you'll need the following ingredients: 12 oz cherry juice, 12 oz white grape juice, 1 banana, sliced into 8 thick pieces. You'll also need 8 small paper cups, 8 PopsicleŽ sticks, foil (cut into small squares to cover tops of cups) and a baking pan.

Mix cherry and grape juice together and fill 1/2 to 3/4 of each cup. Drop a banana slice into every cup, then insert Popsicle stick into banana so it stands up. Next, make a slit through the center of each foil square. Cover cup with foil, allowing stick to pop through slit.

Place cups in the baking pan (to create a level surface and to catch spills) and put in freezer for at least 4 hours, or until solid. Before serving, peel away the paper cup and foil.

*Super-Sundaes: To prepare this Superman birthday party desert, you'll need blueberries, raspberries, sliced strawberries, vanilla or berry-flavored yogurt or ice cream, and raspberry sauce.

Alternate layers of fruit and yogurt in bowls or clear cups. Finish with fruit and a drizzle of sauce.

*Super Pizza (cut pepperoni and cheese slices in "S" shapes)
    *Veggies & Dip
    *Meatballs & Pasta
    *Popcorn

    Superman Birthday Party Drink Ideas:

*Supersippers: Stir 6-oz of frozen orange juice concentrate together with 2 cups of cherry juice. Just before serving, slowly mix in one 33.8-oz bottle of carbonated water.

    *Gatorade
    *PowerAde
