Winnie the Pooh Birthday Party Ideas

Young kids will be extremely thrilled about attending Winnie the Pooh birthday party.

The following party ideas will help you plan a terrific event! Let's get started with...

Resources:

  • Party Supplies
  • Free Printable Invitations

  • Invitations

Have as much fun as you can with your Winnie the Pooh birthday invitations. Download a group image of Winnie, Piglet, Eeyore, Rabbit, Kanga, etc. Then crop the picture to fit regular invitation cards. Next, print the image on the front of the cards. Write your Pooh bear party information on the inside. Finally, decorate the cards with theme stickers.

As a variation, you can take a picture of the birthday child holding his favorite Winnie the Pooh toy. Then print that picture, and put it on the front of the invitation cards. The invitation wording can start with "Join us in the Hundred Acre Woods for (your child's name) __th birthday!"

You can also mail your Winnie the Pooh birthday party invitations along with a theme item (e.g., Winnie the Pooh cups, beanbags, etc). If the kids are not extremely young, they will appreciate the gift.

Ask your Winnie the Pooh birthday party guests to bring their teddy bears to the party.

    Decorations

Choose red, yellow, light brown, green and purple as colors for your Winnie the Pooh party decorations. Use lots of balloons and streamers in those colors. Play Pooh theme music in the background.

Winnie the Pooh Characters Print an image of Winnie the Pooh, enlarge it and tape it to the fence. (You can also use theme poster.) Tie a bunch of balloons near the driveway entrance to mark your party spot. Cut out paw prints of Winnie the Pooh characters, and spread them on the driveway. Have the prints lead to Winnie the Pooh party area, so the guests know where to go. Hang a banner that says "Welcome to Winnie the Pooh Birthday Party!"

Fill the ceiling with clear helium balloons to represent the sky. Draw a large rainbow on poster board and hang it on the wall. Spread Winnie the Pooh stuffed toys and other theme items around the room. Mount Winnie the Pooh poster onto the wall.

Cut out trees from brown and green construction paper and place them around the room to represent the forest. Spread out several theme activity books and coloring pages on coffee tables. Have red and gold balloons floating throughout.

Cover Winnie the Pooh birthday party table with a theme table cloth. Put a stuffed theme animal toy in the middle of the table for a centerpiece. Tie colorful balloons to the back of the chairs. Hang a personalized "Happy Birthday" banner nearby.

    Guest Arrival and Introductory Activities

*Guess How Many: Before Winnie the Pooh birthday party, place red and yellow gummy bears into a jar. Invite the kids to guess how many gummy bears are in the jar. The closest guess wins the jar full of candy. Give the leftovers to everyone else.

*Pooh Coloring Pages: Get the children to color activity book pages with crayons while they are waiting for others to arrive.

    Favors

For your Winnie the Pooh birthday party favors, give out such items as beanbags, cups, candy necklaces, Winnie the Pooh sticker sheets, blowouts, Pop RocksŪ candy, etc.

Winnie the Pooh Birthday Party Games

*Pin the Tail on Eeyore: For this classic activity, you'll need a picture or poster of Eeyore, grey felt, scissors, tape and blindfold.

Cut the grey felt with scissors into tail shapes (enough for each guest). Place double-sided tape on tails so they stick.

Mount Eeyore's picture on the wall. Have the kids stick their tails on Eeyore where they belong. (Use blindfold, but if the younger kids are not comfortable with wearing one, don't insist.)

*Piglet, Piglet, Eeyore!: This is Winnie the Pooh birthday party variation of classic "Duck, Duck, Goose" game.

Have the kids sit in a circle. The birthday child begins by walking around the circle tapping each guest's shoulder lightly while saying, "Piglet!"

When the birthday child says, "Eeyore" the child who has just been tapped must jump up and chase the birthday child around the circle. If the birthday child gets all the way around the circle and sits in the empty space without being tagged, then Eeyore becomes "it." Continue playing until the kids are ready for a new activity.

*Pooh Bubble Contest: Give the kids tubes of bubbles and have them sit in a circle. Have one party host armed with a ruler. Everyone must start making bubbles using bubble solution and wands. The host then runs around measuring the bubbles to find the largest.

*Buzzy Bees: Let the kids play an old-fashion game of Tag.

*Bouncing Tigger: For this Winnie the Pooh birthday party game, you'll need a stuffed Tigger toy and a blanket. Have the children hold on to an edge of the blanket and toss Tigger into the air.

*Beary Silly Dress-Up: You'll need 2 decorated boxes filled with fun and funky dress-up clothes (adult and child sizes). If all of your Winnie the Pooh birthday party guests have bears, then you can also add bear items to the boxes, and have kids dress up their bears too.

Place the boxes on opposite ends of the room. Then use masking tape to mark a circle in the center of the floor. Ask kids to walk around the circle, while your stereo plays a playful tune. When you stop the music, kids must rush to one of the boxes and put on a dress-up item. Continue until all items are gone. Then hold a fashion show and take lots of pictures.

*Hidden Honey: For this Winnie the Pooh birthday party game, you'll need 20-foot pieces of yarn (1 for each guest), bags of honey-flavored candies or small toys (wrapped up with a honey pot picture taped to the outside), paper, and scissors and crayons/markers.

Before the party, attach a candy bag or small toy to the end of each piece of yarn. Hide the bags/toys in drawers, cupboards, under sofa pillows, etc. Then slowly stretch each length of yarn around the room, wrapping around furniture and intertwining with other pieces until you've used them all.

Attach the name of a guest to the other end of each piece. Then invite the kids to find their names and follow their threads to discover "hidden honey" at the end.

*Musical Bear: Seat the kids in the circle, and put on Winnie the Pooh theme music. Guests pass (or push) around stuffed bear while music plays. When you stop the music, player holding the bear wins a treat.

If the same person wins more than twice, ask that player to give the treat to someone without a prize. (Alert guests about this idea before the game begins.) Continue until everyone has one or two treats.

*Tigger's Parade: Have everyone line-up. Hand out musical instruments like tambourines, maracas, bells and anything else in the house that makes music. Turn on the tune for "inspiration," so the children can play along.

Have the leader start bouncing around the room, with everyone else following. The leader could be the birthday child, or the host of the party. When the music is turned off, the parade is complete.

*Story Time with Pooh: For this final Winnie the Pooh party activity, you'll need "Pooh's Grand Adventure" book.

Have the children sit together and listen as you read to them a popular Pooh story. For added entertainment, have another party host pantomime some of the story as you are reading.

As a variation, consider turning one of the easy stories into a puppet show. Go behind a couch and use different Pooh characters to tell the story. Finger puppets are easy to create by gluing or stapling colored pieces of felt.

    Food and Drink

    Winnie the Pooh Birthday Cake:

*Winnie the Pooh Cake: Bake a rectangular cake. Print a picture of Winnie the Pooh off the computer, and place it on the cake. Then carve around the paper to shape the cake. Finally, ice various portions of the cake with butter cream icing.

As a variation, you can decorate the cake with Winnie the Pooh cake toppers (available at party stores).

Here you will find more Winnie the Pooh cake design ideas.

Winnie the Pooh Birthday Party Food Ideas:

*Piglet in a Blanket: Slice hotdogs lengthwise about halfway through, making sure not to cut apart. Cut cheese into strips.

Unroll crescent rolls (refrigerated crescent rolls from a tube) into individual triangles. Place a hotdog, with a slice of cheese inserted into a cut, onto roll. Roll-up crescent and bake as directed, or until golden brown.

*Honey Pot Sandwiches: Prepare natural creamy butter and honey sandwiches and cut them into honey-pot shapes using knife or cookie cutter. Be sure to spread peanut butter very thin for kids under the age of 4, and not to serve honey for babies under the age of 1.

*Fruit Taco Stuff: For this Winnie the Pooh birthday party recipe, you'll need 8 hard taco shells, 4-6 cups assorted fresh fruit placed in separate bowls (peaches, strawberries, bananas, etc.), 3 tbsp orange juice, several small yogurts (in different flavors), 1 cup sliced almonds.

Heat taco shells in oven until warm. Chop fruit and place in separate bowls (strawberries in one bowl, bananas in another, etc.). Add a little orange juice to each bowl and mix. Invite the kids to fill taco shells with their favorite fruits and yogurt, then top with almonds.

*"Cub" Cakes: You'll need miniature cupcakes, frosting and colored gel, and blueberries. Using the gel, decorate each cupcake with a little bear face and add blueberries for ears.

*Bear Biscuits: For this Winnie the Pooh birthday party recipe, you'll need 4 packages of refrigerated biscuits, raisins, poppy seeds (or sesame seeds), and vegetable spray.

Divide each package of biscuits in half, and knead each portion. (You'll have 8 equal portions of dough.) Separate each portion into the following parts: 1 small ball for head, 1 large ball for body, 7 smaller balls for ears, nose, hands and feet.

Spray a baking sheet with vegetable spray (or cover with foil) and set each "body" on it. Place a head above each body, and add ears, hands, feet and nose. Poke raisins in the center of the ears and the nose. Make eyes and belly button. Sprinkle bodies with poppy or sesame seeds to create "fur," if desired.

Bake according to package directions until golden brown. Set aside to cool.

*Rabbit Ice Cream Balls: Make a large ice cream ball for each of your Winnie the Pooh birthday party guests. Roll balls in coconut flakes and set them on flattened cupcake wrappers.

Decorate the balls: use black jelly beans - for rabbit's eyes, a red jelly bean - for the nose, halved sugar cookies - for the rabbit's ears. Store the ice cream balls in the freezer until ready to serve.

*Bearilicious Berries: You'll need one container of strawberries and a package of semi-sweet chocolate chips.

Wash strawberries, and dry them well (or chocolate won't stick). Microwave chocolate in a bowl for 30 seconds (monitor closely, since microwave times vary depending on wattage power). Remove chocolate from the microwave and stir a few times, then repeat 2 more times. Stir until all lumps have melted. Microwave again if necessary.

Serve while chocolate is still warm (but cool enough not to burn). Kids simply dip strawberries into the chocolate and lip-smack away.

    *Eeyore's Pizza
    *Honey Buns
    *Gummy Bears
    *Teddy Grahams
    *Honey-Flavored Candy

Winnie the Pooh Birthday Party Drink Ideas:

*Yummy Floats: Fill cups with cherry soda. Add a dollop of vanilla ice cream. Top with whipped cream and a maraschino cherry.

*Berry Juice (serve strawberry-, blueberry- or raspberry-flavored drinks)

    *Honey Bee Punch
    *Chocolate Milk
